  1. I know that but somebody should tell the author. It appears he doesn't actually know what vertical drop means. Obviously, there is no proof reading or editing anymore. From a quick look at a topographical map the headwall is about 200 vertical feet.
  2. Wow! White Lightning is 1000 vertical feet! He actually says it twice. 🙄
  3. How were the crowds? Might hit it tonight.
  4. Planning on heading there after work. Hope the crowds are still low. Was mobbed last Tuesday when I was there. Their lift line management sucks. Do they close Timberline every night for racing?

    Sale rumors...

The biggest problem with Denton Hill is it's in the middle of nowhere with a low population density. I always wanted to check it out but I can be at a lot of other larger places in half the time. Their best option would be to get any schools in decent driving distance to start after school programs.

    Sale rumors...

Laurel Mountain and Denton Hill are both state owned. Lauren was updated with a new lift and lodge renovation several years ago and is currently operated by Vail. The same is planned for Denton Hill. At first no one bid on operating it. Now I think some locals will operate it in the next year or so after a new lift and upgraded snowmaking are installed. I don't think the state would be interested in owning Elk. It wouldn't be hard to find a private company to buy and operate it.
  7. Looks like Smuggs this past Saturday. Skiing by Braille.

    Sale rumors...

I don't think so. It's managed by the Fairbanks group who also manages Jiminy Peak and Cranmore. I think the ownership is one of the usual real estate companies that holds the real estate for tax and liability reasons.
  9. Waterville Valley is a good option for New Hampshire since you have the Indy Pass. It skis bigger than it looks.

    Sale rumors...

I agree. I just skied Berkshire East this past Saturday. They do a great job and would be a good match for Elk. They did a good job with Catamount so far. Elk could add some glades and a high speed lift but otherwise leave it alone. Corporate ownership would ruin Elk.
  11. Actually I think the passes discourage people from taking up skiing. Beginners don't buy season passes. When they think about trying skiing they look at the now exorbitant day ticket prices plus rentals and go snow tubing or ice skating. I actually heard a father at blue a few years ago suggest to his two young boys that snow tubing might be more fun after seeing the lift ticket prices.
  12. It has an angle station with unloading like the Collins lift at Alta.
  13. Is that the first time that they didn't get 100% open?
  14. Just put it at the curb. People will take most of it.
  15. Don't forget you have to make reservations for Powder Mountain I think 4 days a head of time.
  16. It's a high speed quad.
  17. Boot up at Jackson Gore to avoid the steps and the slow lift at the main lodge.
  18. I was there last Saturday and Long Haul was running. Upper Runaway and Upper Fast Track weren't open so I was surprised it was running. Conditions were better than expected. Hard but carveable.
  19. Berkshire East is a fun mountain, Lots of interesting trails and a lot of variety. A great alternative to Mt. Snow in that area on a busy weekend. Never gets that crowded. Looks like the trail under the lift is a little thin. They don't make snow on it so it's all natural and the base isn't that great yet. East Bowl at Burke is great narrow, old style trail. The base might not be that great on it yet but if it's open it's a fun trail. Keep your speed up at the bottom for the runout. Saddleback is haul from there but I heard it is skiing great. Have fun and keep the reports up. Big Day Brewing is pretty good in Gorham, NH if it's open when you go though.
  20. Yep. A good friend of mine has a place between Bethel and Gorham. I'll be heading up Tuesday after work and skiing Wed. to Saturday. Even without the Indy Pass Black of ME is $15 on Thursday and $25 on Friday. Abram is $35 everyday.
  21. Used my Indy Pass at Montage on Saturday. Conditions were firm but carveable. No lift lines at all and crew picking up trash under the lifts. Looking at Greek Peak next weekend. It looks like they got all snow out of this precipitation today. I'll be in Maine the following week. Hope to hit Saddleback, Abram, Black of Maine and possibly Black of NH if conditions are good.
  22. Or get a real house. 😉
  23. Just put the cameras there and give warnings. Just knowing the cameras are there would deter a lot people from throwing trash off of the lift. Also put the containers under the top of the lifts and trash cans just past the off ramps with signs on the lift line to let people know they are there.
  24. Not on the Indy but check out Mt. Abram when you're in that area. Their highest price all year is $35 thanks to L.L. Bean. It skis a lot bigger than it looks on the map.
  25. Does anyone think that maybe they should have left one of the Main St/Burma chairs in so everyone didn't have to go all the way to the valley? Like people who only want to ski/ride the Come Around park?
