1/3/15...carpet...crowded...snowing
trackbiker replied to GrilledSteezeSandwich's topic in Blue Mountain
Haven't heard anyone over 12 use that term. I guess not only are you an immature 35 yr. old virgin, you're also uneducated in that you couldn't think of a better adjective and actually articulate the problem. I'm sure the college girls are impressed by Creepy Old Guy's vocabulary. -
35 year old virgins have to take out their frustrations somewhere. it doesn't have to be here. They get kicked off other of other sites that actually provide some useful information. There is a difference between joking around and being a jackass. No one can take advantage of you unless you let them.

White Lightning had some bumps beginning to form last Friday. The bumps are usually not very consistent on WL due to the steepness of the trail. Boomer had nice soft bumps.

And he calls his bottle his baba.

KC, Just ignore GSS. Anyone who reads just a few of his posts soon realizes that he is a 34 virgin who doesn't have a life and responds to every post here like he is 6 years old. He works for his Daddy and would probably be living in the basement if his father hadn't hired him just so he didn't have to live in his basement. You can figure out pretty quick that he responds to every post on every subject here all day long, so he can't have a lot of responsibility, or even much work, at Daddy's business. Probably doesn't want him screwing things up so he lets him play on the internet all day. He thinks he has a shot at losing his virginity at karaoke night, but even though he acts like he is 6 years old, he doesn't yet realize that the college girls consider him "Creepy Old Guy." It's pretty sad when the person who posts the most contributes the least. No wonder there are not many new members on here. We hear how many times he goes potty a day just like a little kid in daycare. His post don't really add any value and I'm sure Blue Mountain would prefer he be banned like he was on Alpine Zone for acting like a 6 year old there.

The Phoebe lift is 610' vertical. The top of Runaway and Fast track are flat. Most people don't ski top to bottom. The better skiers ski the bottom and the novices ski the top of the mountain. Montage is laid out top to bottom the way most areas are laid out side to side. It's pretty easy to ski from the top of the Phoebe to the bottom of the Iron Horse. No skating involved. They improved the crossover from top to bottom and vice versa. KC, good to see you back. Someone who actually contributes valuable information.
-
I doubt that but regardless, I'll take quality over quantity anytime. Oh, by the way, the name is now back to Montage.

No Long Haul. Fastrack and Runaway are not open. You don't really need Long Haul and even when it is running not many people use it. They improved the cross trails in the middle of the mountain to get from the top to the bottom and vice versa. It still cracks me up how people will stand in a long line to get on a fast lift. I'd rather ski right onto a slow lift and get to the top faster. The conditions are much better than CB and Blue due to better snowmaking and less crowds. The Blue Crew only skis till ten because the lines get long and the conditions deteriorate. You can ski at Montage all day on good conditions or sleep in and get there late if you only want to ski two hours on good conditions. And yours are........nonexistent.

No crowds on the Northface. Only line I saw was a short one for the beginners slope and the lift in front of the lodge. Lot was about 1/3 to 1/2 full when I left at 1:00 and people were still buying tickets. Really worth the extra half hour drive from CB or Blue to avoid the crowds and the conditions usually hold up all day. Plus the $29 9 to 1 ticket is a better deal than anything at CB or Blue.

Skied Montage today from 9 to 1 on my $23.20 ticket bought on groupon or wherever back in October. Conditions were great on everything open. They were blowing on Switch, Spike, & Lower Runaway, and started grooming out Smoke with an expected opening in the afternoon. No lift lines to speak of. Pretty much ski-on.I'd say they could open Switch and Spike by tomorrow unless they want to wait until after the r@!n event. They may have started slow but I'd say they have much acres open as Blue and the snow is much better quality. Love that fan gun snow. Smoke was grooming out nice with no sign of the cookies that Blue makes. Boomer had nice soft bumps and White Lightning skied really well. Started getting a bit scratchy at the bottom after noon in spots but still very edge-able. Cannonball had nice soft, fast snow. The lodge wasn't crowded with grandmoms, grandpops, moms & dads because snow tubing has not opened yet. They need to market to the masses that were yardsaling at Blue. Great morning at a great price.
-
Any feeling for what they might have open tomorrow? I was thinking of using one of my morning tickets since they are good on holidays.
-
The rocks were likely a result of the thin cover. The groomers dig them up when the snow is not deep enough to groom. I'll likely get there once on my Pocono Card but I usually leave by noon.

Temps were in the low 40's and sun was out when I got there. Not blaming Blue. They can only work with the weather they have. Ski areas are taking a beating this week. This is usually their busiest week.

Bar was down. Skis got caught on the tower? She must have had her skis twisted sideways. http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Woman-dies-after-falling-off-Hunter-Mountain-ski-5983295.php

I went up for a night session because I had things to do today and didn't want to pay a fortune for a ticket when the conditions were iffy. I got a $30 ticket at my borough office and got on the slopes right at 4:00. They turned on the snow making at 5:15 on all the open trails. Temps were very marginal and it was a very wet snow if it was snow at all. I was wiping water off of my goggles, not snow. But it was freezing up after a while. I expected the base to be softer with all the warm weather but it was bulletproof cat tracks with frozen granular piles on the sides. Newbies were yardsaling all over the place and most boarder were sliding down Chute and Midway with their boards perpendicular to the slopes with there asses on the ice. Left at 6:00. Conditions were the worst that I can remember skiing on in years. Between the bad surface and the wet "snow"making making the visibility bad, it was almost unskiable. Brought back memories from the 70's.

It's called Rumaki

They do have a lift and trail report up.

There is a groupon offer for a $25.00 lift ticket for Alpine Mountain. Anyone over an intermediate would be bored after a few runs but for beginners or kids it's a great place and uncrowded. Ticket is good any time so it might be a good choice to avoid the holiday, MLK, and Pres. Day crowds. http://www.groupon.com/deals/alpine-mountain-ski-snow-tubing-center-1

Thanks for the summary. Not a job most of us would want but we're glad you like it and it is one that is under appreciated. The previous owners did spend a lot of money and put in a state-of-the-art snow making system. Do they fill in the lazy river with barrels or anything to avoid having to make enough snow to fill it up? The new owners seem to be making positive changes. The lodge upgrade is nice and the new building for rentals was badly needed. The last owners spent money like drunken sailors. If the new owners are more cautious with the spending that is not a bad thing compared to the place closing. They did miss an early opportunity to make snow. But no one had a crystal ball to predict that the early December weather would be unseasonably warm. When it gets cold again they will make snow. I'm sure Blue is not making a profit on a daily basis at this point but then they can afford it because they will make it up between Christmas and the end of February.

From what I can figure and since 12/13 is the first day they have tickets available on Liftopia; I would guess that is their projected opening date.

Blue has their Cyber Monday three packs but they are only good for nonholiday weekdays. I'll pass. But they're likely to go somewhere else next time. -

Nice neighborhood..... but it looks a little dead.

Peak Resorts is having some sort of Cyber Monday sale on 12/1. They'll likely have discount tickets available online then.

Here you go guys but I still think he was goofy. Are those goggles or a bra that he's holding?
