Atomic Jeff will disagree with me but a lease is the most expensive way to own a car. The interest rate is much higher than financing.
-
A friend who sells cars told me that they make the the most money off of leases.
-
Both are true when there's snow.

That's a long day trip. Both times I skied there were on return trips from business in the Pittsburgh area. They have some good terrain but I still think Elk has better and more variety.
-
As minimum they should do that on weekends.
-
It seems that they push everything out as soon as they can to get more terrain open rather than let the whales sit and dry out for a day. Hence the cookies. But I still think they could do a better job of grooming. I think one of Elks tricks is to groom in the morning before they open. Blue grooms as soon as they shut down at night rather than letting it set up if it was a warm day. That causes the frozeroy and harder surfaces.
-
I've been saying this for years. I think that Blue just doesn't care. The crowds show up anyway.
-
I agree. If Gore is closer I'm going to Gore. But if you're ever in the Mount Snow Area for a few days, heading to Berkshire East on a weekend day is not a bad idea.
-
The Shaefers have made many improvements since buying Catamount. I think with continual improvements it will be pretty good in a few years. You might want to try it again when all the trails are open. Have you tried Berkshire East? I'd rather ski there than Mount Snow on a holiday weekend when I'm in the area.

Looks Like the summit is still in a cloud. Hope that clears up for you. Is the Wilmington trail open?
-
Correct. But with the number of belts at the typical auto parts store you can usually find something that would work.
-
What I've done in the past is take a piece of string and run it around the pulleys where the belt would be then take a measurement. Go the auto parts store and get a belt as close to that length as you can. The pulley adjustment should be enough to make it work.

How much was that? About 12 bucks? Should have gotten a pizza at Blue.

Plattekill has a great all around vibe. The bar is great. But if you're ever there on a warm day you need hip waders to get through the parking lot. I really don't care whether the parking lot is paved or not. I care how the mountain and the skiing is. But then to each his/her own.
-
I've skied there a couple of times on the Pocono Card. Conditions were usually good and they didn't seem to skimp on snowmaking when I was there. Nothing really hard but not a bad place to learn or for intermediates. Crowds don't usually show up until around noon and there's rarely more than a few chair wait even after that. They added the second chair to the double-double a few years ago, so they're not averse to spending money. Lodge is nice and the food is good and reasonably priced. What don't you like about paved lots?
-
Food and beverage net profits aren't as high as most people think regardless of their high prices. Most of their infrastructure is sitting empty for 8 months of the year. They also lost all of their school ski club business that contributed a lot to the bottom line and was a further hit to the F&B.
-
Nice report. How were the crowds and what's the deal with the $30 discount ticket?
-
Platty and Greek Peak have been getting a couple inches a day of lake effect all week. Both should be good. As far as Plattekill having a lot open, you may want to bring some rock skis for the natural snow trails. They're pretty liberal about opening things up. If you've never been it's a great place when they have snow.
-
I think you volunteered for this IIRC. Way to go and thanks!

Different strokes for different folks. I've had some great days at Whiteface and like skiing continuous vertical (And I like to ski the whole thing without stopping.) But find that it often lives up to it's name "Iceface" and find the conditions at Gore generally better than Whiteface.
-
I actually prefer Gore over Whiteface. It's a big mountain with some of the best glades in the east when there is natural snow. There are also a lot of pods that spread the crowds out. Not that there are usually any crowds to speak of there compared to Vermont. Not the best place for snowboarders as there are some traverses getting between some of the pods.

The only way to change things is to get the money out of politics. There was over $800 million spent in just two months on the Georgia senate race. People and mostly corporations aren't "donating" that money out of the kindness of their hearts. It's an investment. And politicians know if the donors don't get a return on that investment, they won't be seeing that investment next election cycle. Pundits don't talk about who has the best the ideas when predicting who is going to win. They always talk about who has the most money.
-
That is completely wrong except for the less snowmaking because they don't need it except at lower elevations.
-
You booked early and got those holiday week days. I doubt you will be able get any more holiday weekends once you get the 5 more days. From what I see online they are already booked. I'm not a lawyer but the pass was not sold with limited days and people will say they are not getting what they were sold or paid for.
-
I know the same thing is true for the former Snowtime resorts in south central PA. They used to be able to buy a pass for all three and now are forced into the Epic pass for a lot more money.
