I wish I had your optimism. From what I've seen I think too many people think it is "back to normal". Most places that I've seen are more like this place that NJ shut down. https://www.lehighvalleylive.com/coronavirus/2020/06/nj-bar-has-outdoor-dining-license-revoked-after-beer-garden-packed-with-people.html I haven't heard of PA shutting any places down. In reality, nothing has changed with the virus. We're approximately where we were when we shut down. Cases will only continue to go up.

He actually said that they would not be shutting down again.

I find it kind of hard to believe that Kalahari bought it. It doesn't make any sense based on their current businesses. I would think another ski area operator would make more sense. But then I've been wrong plenty of times in the past.

That's a much more meaningful statistic than number of daily cases. I hadn't seen that chart on the jhu site. Thanks for posting.

But Pence said there are only a few "embers" left to stamp out.

I think you're making a wise choice. I'd love to go to a brewery and get a nice draft beer but from what I've seen too many people are not social distancing and are coming in very close contact without masks which is not good even at outside venues.
-
That's not true. Florida has been testing approximately the same number people for the last two weeks but cases are way up.

From what I saw this weekend I'm not optimistic. Went by Free Will brewing on my bike on Friday. They opened a larger area in a field behind their building. Place was packed with no social distancing. Saw lots of people without masks and not social distancing this past weekend.

Who wants to place odds on Disney World opening a month from now?

If you look at the maps of the states with upward trends there are distinct spikes around 10 days after Memorial Day weekend. New Cases 50 States

I don't think it's the second wave. The first wave was never repressed to a reasonable level. It's just a resurgence of the first wave. But you have much more knowledge on this subject than I do so i will defer to your conclusion. I appreciate your professional insights to the Covid-19 discussion.

It was a resolution by the republicans. It has no legal basis to change anything.

I like trains!!! Train thread...

Is that across from the hump yard? That's a pretty cool operation to watch as they build up trains. -
What's attracting them to your yard? Unusual to see two full grown bears together but then it is mating season.

Our grandparents went through WWI the Dust Bowl, the Great Depression, and WW2 where people were unemployed, staples were rationed, gas was rationed, people grew victory gardens, etc. And they didn't have TV never mind cable TV, internet, phones in their pockets and they sacrificed for the common good. The people who whine about wearing a mask to go into a store or place of work are the real pussies.

One of my best friends runs a tech company. He used WeWork space to set up satellite offices in London and Seattle. He can pay for more space as he adds people instead of paying for space that you may not use for up to a year. I have another friend who is in sales with an office in NYC. He spends 25-50% of his time on the road. The company did away with private offices about a year or two ago and added cubicles in their general area. They use 70% of the space that they used to (saves a lot of rent in NYC) but he doesn't have his own office now after 20 years. He just gets whatever cubicle is available when he's in the office. When they have a monthly meeting where everyone is there there is not enough cubicles for everyone to get their own space. He hates it. But the change did give him more flexibility to work from home even before the Pandemic and he does save time and money by not commuting as much.

I think they auctioned off all of the snowmaking equipment, groomers, and other ski related equipment when it was sold.

Trump doesn't want to take any actions that he could be criticized for later. We need a coordinated national response to this pandemic for the best results. He doesn't want to do that because then he can blame the governors and other local officials if something doesn't work out just right. He's not a leader. He's a bully. He doesn't ever have a reasoned response. He just calls people names when they ask him a questions he doesn't like and plays the "victim".

You can be in Europe in the same time as it takes to get to Whistler. -
I wouldn't be planning any ski trips to Colorado next winter. Things could be bad there then based on how people are "social distancing" so well there now. Colorado Coffee Shop Yesterday

The same people that listen to classic propaganda and vote against their own self interests. Red States....highest rates of obesity, diabetes, and smoking. All propensities for having a bad and/or lethal reaction to the virus. We'll see how that works out for them.
