  1. Here's some suggestions for your bucket list: VT: Magic, Jay Peak NY: Plattekill, Greek Peak, Gore PA: Blue Knob CA: Anywhere in Tahoe area CO: A Basin Can't believe you didn't hit Alta or Snowbird in UT.
  2. I get what you're saying but I think the numbers would make more sense if they were put into some kind of context. OK the numbers of new cases are going down. Great. But if the number is 1000 out of 10,000 tested is that better than than 1900 out of 20,000 tested? They never tell us how many are tested each day. Is it the same amount every day or does it vary widely?
  3. What do these numbers really mean? They are only testing a limited number of people. People who have symptoms and first responders are two of the groups. Who else is getting tested? Are those numbers people who are actually sick or do they include people who were tested but are asymptomatic? We know there are people out there who have it, can transmit it, and haven't been tested so what is the real meaning of these numbers?
  4. Sullivan County has the lowest population density in the state. Plus I think most people who live there have never been more than three miles from their home.
  5. The red states are going to get nailed in about 2 weeks.
  6. The more you do them the faster you can do them. Some authors use fairly standard clues and words. The Sunday editions are the best. Merle Reagle was one of my favorite crossword authors. He had a lot of clever and play-on-word type clues. Unfortunately he died a few years ago. The Washington Post still prints one of his crosswords every week. Merle Reagle Puzzles Wait for the ad to play out then you'll see the crosswords you can print out.
  7. 48 Down: SEMI, 53 Down: DER; 56 Across: ACME 1 Across: PERT; 1 Down: PAC If you need more help for the others let me know.
  8. That cracks me up too. People driving in their car alone with the windows rolled up with a mask on. I see this a lot. And it's not like they're driving from one end of a shopping center to another. What are they thinking? But I guess it's better than the people who are not wearing masks or social distancing,
  9. 6% is nothing compared to businesses that are shut down. Your other disruptions are first world problems. You have it pretty darn good compared to most people. I don't think anyone is shedding a tear over your "disruptions". You're always referring to the "poors". It's a shame you can't find the decency to help people who are in much worse positions through no fault of their own.
  10. How much has your life been disrupted? Business might be down now but the tombstone business will be booming with the extra deaths. If you feel like you don't deserve it, you're right. Donate it to a local food bank or some other charity that helps people who do need it.
  11. I agree. I think these states that are opening up will see a surge. Unfortunately, it will take about 2 weeks to see it and the spread will be even greater.
  12. Made in China!!!
  13. I think it will be more like blaming the main stream media for misinterpreting his remarks. And the typical propaganda MO; blame someone else (the "other"), turn the conversation to something "outrageous" that someone else did (bright shiny objects diversion), point out what a great job he is doing ( Lies), call it "fake news" (more lies), cite an unreliable testimonial (cite some crackpot theory from some discredited "study").
  14. If you haven't received it yet you're not going to get it unless you get it in the second round. The money all went to bigger businesses with smaller satellite operations and the banks most profitable customers. Don't think it won't happen in the second round as well. The only down side is the chance of bad press and then you give it back.
  15. The numbers aren't as simple as most people think. Here's an example: Flu: Out of 10,000 people 20% get the flu and 2% of those people die. 10,000 x 0.2 x 0.02 = 40 dead out of 10,000. Corona: Out of 10,000 people 40% get it and 1.5% of those people die: 10,000 x 0.4 x 0.015 = 60 dead people out of 10,000. That's 20 more dead out of 10,000 or 50% more dead with a lower death rate per case.
  16. Never heard about that one or saw a picture of it before. Thanks for posting.
  17. Covid-19 is a Lie but then why the mask? Oh the irony........
  18. I've been to Oktoberfest and you're really not missing much. It's crowded and unless you have a contact or already booked something you wouldn't be able to get into one of the tents. It's much better to go to Munich in the summer when the big beer gardens are open.
  19. Looks more like a couple hundred people if that. All close together and not wearing masks. We'll see how that works out for them. Unfortunately it will take a couple of days to know whether there is a spike in infections. Too bad you can only give Darwin Awards posthumously.
  20. OK. All of you people who are still collecting a paycheck. Where are you spending your relief money? I was thinking about that this weekend and am looking for the best way to help local people and businesses. The whole idea of the money is to spur the economy. So i think the right thing to do is use it for people who are out of work. I would like to keep it local as well. So I'm not planning on using it for online purchases. I like eating in restaurants but I'm not much of a take-out guy. I drop off groceries a couple times a year at a local food bank. Instead of groceries I think I'll just give them some money. They know better than me what they need. Any other ideas?
  21. What's nice about this thread and all of them on this site so far is that the conversations have all been very civilized and enlightening by those with expertise in certain areas. It's a shame our government can't be that way. The system was designed for compromise.
  22. Most private colleges are well endowed. (Not like a horse. Like they have a lot of money) It's the state schools that will see their budgets slashed. The GOP gives their friends billions but they would object to giving money to state schools because that would be "socialism."
  23. You wouldn't want to do that at Lowes or Home Depot. Their wood is not the best grade of lumber. You usually have to pick through half of the skid to get a few good pieces.
  24. One of my friends is not a scrapper but more of a salvager. He goes around a nice neighborhood on trash night and picks up things to sell at 2 yard sales he does every year or on craigslist. His favorite thing to pick up is vacuum cleaners. 9 out of 10 are either just clogged because the bag is full or the belt broke. He fixes them and sells them for $20 to $60. Pays for his ski and beer money.
