tinymoose and I finally got our first day yesterday in at big boulder. expensive lift tix for only 2 trails open during the day ($40). we rolled into the lot around 9:30, got our tix, booted up, and got in line for the tannenbaum lift around 10-ish. snow was quite nice and grippy with little signs of icing up yet. they were blowing snow all day, which made each lift ride up the hill very cold. the one trail (tannenbaum) was not crowded despite number of ppl I saw in the base area....thank you slow lift. we called it quits about 1:30 and headed over to boulder view tavern for après. it def felt good to be back on snow!

Ski options for day trips on Thanksgiving Weekend
guitar73 replied to Ski2Live Live2Ski's topic in Other Mountains
I want to get out this weekend as well. hopefully they don't loose too much snow with all this r**n we're getting. -
the past several times we have done the skillz we'd hit up windham on sunday, then ski hunter on Monday. it was kinda crowded in the AM at windham, but we had the place to ourselves after 12 noon b/c ppl were headed home by then. hunter usually had no crowds on Mondays.

my dad has degenerative disc disease and had three or four lower back vertebrae destroyed. he had reconstructive surgery 20 plus years ago and he did not take care of himself at all. He used to be a very strong guy, but he's a workaholic and doesn't exercise at all, other than playing golf. He would try to do things that he used to do before his back gave out and overstressed his body. consequently, he is always in pain every day, despite having the reconstructive surgery. on the flip side, I have a ski buddy from MA. he has degenerative disc disease (to a far lesser degree), had microdiscectomy to do the reconstruction, and he did all the rehab and takes care of himself. he's back to near 100%.

I think I'm all set on stuff for this season (for once). though I did score some sweet merino wool base layer tops from icebreaker (ya 50% off sale!)

yeah, I echo that big sky sentiment. I doubt vail would buy big sky since it isn't close to a large metropolitan area....same goes with JH. WB is not that far away from Vancouver. vail just might buy up the rest of the summit county resorts, lol.

ski day #5 was at brighton. my buddy rob was feeling much better this morning and we thought we would do another easy day and hit some sweet groomers. got up to the mtn about 8:30-ish and scored a primo parking spot by the main lodge. booted up and started on the great western express and did a couple of laps there. rob and i were literally the only ppl on that lift....and that's a long lift. immediately we were impressed by the variety of stuff under that lift: groomers, trees, steeps, you name it. then we went on to snake creek express and found some very nice snow in sawbuck area (to skier's left of the lift). next up we made a mistake and got on the majestic lift: we were headed to the crest express. anyhow, did a few laps on the groomers off of crest and what not. next up we ventured over to the milly express area. wow what an area. great groomers there and the scree slope area to skier's right is awesome. took a break about noon then went back up the great western and hit up rein's run (a nice steep area just below the top of the lift) and then poked around the trees in elk park ridge. snow was getting a bit baked in there so we made our way back over to the milly express and lapped the scree area a few times. called it a day about 3:30-ish and headed back to the base area. going into brighton i had very low expectations. that said, we both had a blast there. tons and tons of tree skiing to be had there i think makes this area. they have lots of easy stuff and a good amount of very challenging areas to keep the skilled skier happy for a day or two. view from top of great western express lift rob hanging out on scree slope looking towards milly lift and solitude
