  1. actually, we didn't mind not having any gates set up. one really doesn't learn or perfect their turning skillz in the gates....that's where you need to already have that skill set and can work on learning how to ski the gates. we found that focusing on practicing the skills while trying to learn how to ski a race course was very difficult and not productive at all. I think (and this was the opinion of one of the coaches) that it's good to do more skills practice outside the course and then do a few runs down the course.
  2. last nite was our "final" nite of the adult racing clinic. no crowds, super slick but grippy snow conditions, and not so cold temps made for a very fine evening indeed. we didn't run any gates this time. instead, it was all drills and application, mostly focusing on body positions throughout the turn. drills were focusing on isolating the lower body in order to set the edges and obtain significant edge angles, balance on and pressuring of the skis, etc. it was a really good session b/c we didn't have to worry about making/missing gates at all. at the end of the nite our coaches said they may give us a bonus session next week. anyhow, if you are into learning how to run gates or just improve upon your carving skillz this adult race clinic is a good choice. tinymoose and I are thinking about doing it again next season.
  3. It's been lightly flaking in Norristown most of the morning

    Best ski mask/hood?

for that kind of cold i use my serius facemask/neck gator combo....works like a charm.
  7. hi everyone, we just got back from an awesome morning session at montage today. i gotta say that the conditions there were top notch as far as PA goes. 100% coverage, "soft" bumps, and very little if any ice. the base lodge was a bit crowded, between the asra race and a few other groups, but this is montage and one has to expect that the lodge area is crowded. we got to the mtn around 9am and got booted up inside. while we were booting up, johnny style came by and said hi. he was there for the asra race. we wished him good luck and then we went on our way. we met up with a buddy of mine from college and then headed out to the slopes. we warmed up on upper fast track for a couple of runs, then hit up the glades off of upper fast track before heading down to the north face, where we spent most of our day. we pretty much alternated between boomer and white lightning. boomer was in amazing shape. no ice to be found at all. everyone of those 32 degs of white lightning were fabulous. they had groomed smoke, but it was still fun as well. called it a day around 1:30....hit up the bar for lunch. had a nugget nector and a flower power to go along with the steezesteak eggrolls and roasted tomato bisque. overall, a highly successful day and stuff.
  8. sounds like it's Christmas time at the boat, lol.
  9. if they put a copyright on the photo/whatever, then it could be copyright infringement....depending on what uses the owner allows.
  10. Floyd's is in the middle b/c it's directly under solitude, which is in the middle of the trail pod. the elevator is skier's right on river shot, the bottom headwall.
  11. we're gonna be at montage tomorrow....
  12. kinda have to agree with phillycore.....it's been way to icy to enjoy skiing it. we need like another foot or so to make it skiable. that said, the elevator is one of my favorite PA trails.
  13. where's the bacon.....this is not ron swanson approved breakfast food
  14. I wouldn't touch accuweather's forecasts with a 10 ft pole....
  15. nice stoke!
  16. but it is still fresh snow!
  17. the only thing right of Floyd's is risk it and some trees that I haven't ventured into yet. all that stuff is accessed by telstar.
  18. jealous!
  19. Floyd's is supposed to be closed until 11 am...but they usually run late. also, it's bad b/c of the trail layout of east mtn. first, there aren't very many trails over there. second, Floyd's is in the middle, so if you rope it off, you bisect that entire trail pod. at blue mtn, there are other options for the advanced skier when razor's edge is closed.
  20. um....I dunno. I suck so much at the gates it's not funny.
  21. lol....she did say she was talking with someone on the lift about the racing. snow was pretty good, except on the razor's edge headwall. it was all beat up from the youth racers. bumps on nightmare were pretty sweet. anyhow, they set a very difficult slalom course last nite...kicked everyone's butt. glad it wasn't so windy last nite like it was last week.
  22. yes...every Tuesday nite for the adult race clinic. the notch thru which the ACL passes is smaller and sharper in females than in males. that's why when women get an ACL injury it is almost always a complete cut.
  23. i'm guessing that we'll be getting r**n again in SEPA.....womp womp.
  24. good luck gents and happy powder hunting
