  1. looking good! will probably look even better on friday
  2. ditto....you do yourself a great disservice by limiting yourself to riding mostly park. you get park all the time at bear creek. hell, even the midwestern kids get park. not everyone gets to ride a large mountain all the time. k-mart has a lot to offer besides park.
  3. Looks pretty firm...
  4. we'll be driving back from ohio tomorrow...so we can't make it
  5. so how was it?
  6. when it comes to skiing, most people don't think about the state of ohio, and for good reason....it's flat, really flat. but, there are a few hills scattered throughout the state. one of them in western ohio is mad river mtn....Ohio's tallest and largest ski area with 300 ft vert and 144 skiable acres. it's about an hour north of my in-laws house...so this is where we do our holiday skiing when we're in the buckeye state. temps were in the low 30's all day and it was flurrying off and on. occasionally the sun would poke through on an otherwise cloudy day (typical of ohio winter days). conditions were surprisingly good. they received 3.5 inches of r**n with the recent warmup, but all of their trails were open. it was a carving day for sure...but any day on skis is a good day. we met up with tinymoose's cousin for a day out on the slopes. the cousin hasn't skied in 11 yrs and she currently resides in nashville, but she did surprisingly well. she didn't fall, but stuck mostly to the beginner and intermediate terrain. the hill was mostly uncrowded and no waiting in liftlines. mad river mtn is the type of place where the lift ride up is way longer than the skiing down. but that's ok. we got a ton of laps in and got to spend time with the cousin. good times had by all.
  7. can't, we're outta town next week.
  8. that's nice to do some turns in your own backyard! soon GSS will be lobbying for you to install a highspeed quad so he doesn't have to hike, lol....
  9. i really hate it when i see boards (who don't know how to make turns on steeper slopes) scrape that trail down to the base......grrrr
  10. i tried XC once....couldn't stay balanced on those really skinny skis. i've got weak ankles....womp womp.
  11. i heard you don't make too many turns in X country...that's right up GSS's alley
  12. clipper storms never give us a lot of snow anyhow....i wasn't expecting much out of it anyhow.
  13. you said "ungroomed natural snow"....in PA? woah...that's a miracle. enjoy!
  14. how were the trees? crusty as well? at least they look like they are filling in nicely.
  15. POW POW and more POW!!! well, PA powder...but i'll take it, lol! we rolled into the parking lot just before 4pm, dropped the skis off at the ski check, and then headed to group sales to pick up our 6-session passes (thanks again saurus!). we grabbed a bite to eat before heading out to the hill. clicked in about 5pm, then the fun began. there were no crowds at all, despite the amount of cars in the parking lot. no lift lines, uncrowded slopes, fresh snow....couldn't ask for anything more. run of the day is a tie between timberline and cascade park. those trails were relatively untouched by the people that were there, so snow piled up nicely. I'd say the deepest stuff was found on timberline. grizzly, extreme, and sasquatch were a bit icy at the top. we went in for a little break...started talking with this older dude. he was telling us stories about skiing in the 60's when it used to get really, really cold and snowy. he said he was headed up to vt next week...we were jealous. anyhow, we went back out and wrapped things up by 8 pm. last run of the day was cascade. tinymoose and I made sure to get some FIS DH style air off that last kicker; great way to finish out the best nite we've had a bear creek. drive home was and adventure. side roads to rt 100 were treacherous and rt 100 itself was slow going. temps steadily rose as we headed south and the precip gradually turned from snow to r**n. however, the ski-baru handled things wonderfully (new brakes and tires didn't hurt either).
  16. just finished up. chx fingers & gatorade for the road. there was a solid 3" on our ski-baru when we put our stuff away. hoping for a good drive home.
