yup, def our best ski season to date. we were talking about hitting hunter/windham mid week next season to avoid the crowds

so tinymoose and i got our final ski day in for the season at hunter mtn this past weekend. that makes 28 days for us this winter, not bad at all. anyhow, we drove up saturday by way of alpina ski shop; i had to pick up my skis (which had some repair work done). we arrived at hunter just before dinner time. for lodging, we stayed at the kaatskill mountain club....scored a good deal on the rate and lift tix were only $30 pp....no to shabby i'd say. dinner was at the chalet fondue, a german/austrian resturant in windham (that place is worth the visit!). we got a late start on sunday morning, but that was OK b/c the mtn wasn't crowded at all. it was much colder than i expected, and it was pretty windy. def glad i wore my shell. conditions were typical for end of the season. i'd say about 1/2 the mtn was open. hunter one was pretty dead and hunter west had no snow on it at all (except for one trail). so, we pretty much lapped the 6-pack. run of the day was the cliff to racer's edge...1,600ft vert of soft spring bumps. k-27 looked inviting, we did the upper portion, but passed up the lower portion b/c it was the end of our day and didn't feel like biffing it on that trail. good times...def need to hit this place up during mid-winter to get a better feel for the mtn.

you don't have to hot wax everytime before you go skiing. this season, i usually hot-waxed our skis a few days before we headed out and then did a quick touch-up with the swix f4 rub-on wax. that seemed to work out well and it saved me time.

at this point, it has snow...PA doesn't...i'm not gonna complain

so are you saying that one doesn't need "skillz" to ski hunter?

i'm hoping to squeeze one more day in (@ hunter mtn) before i call it quits.

I don't like skiing in soupy snow either, but it sure is nice to have the sun out and to not be all bundled up. besides, it makes for great pictures

ya, that was my thought as well.

the kicker is that the wedding is at a really nice golf club (innisbrook golf club outside of tampa) and i won't have my clubs with me....doh! oh well, i'll still be thinking of spring skiing when we're down there.

last minute trip up to jf proved to be a very fun day of spring skiing. we made it up to the mtn by 9 AM and on the slope by 9:30. temps were in the hi 30's at the start and I think we ended up in the lo 50's by quitting time. anyhow, snow was a little crusty at first, but by mid morning it was sweet butter. we met our friend wendy over at east mtn. we did 5 laps down the elevator, which was skiing very well! I was expecting to see loads of bare spots, but there was very good coverage on much of the elevator. tinymoose even gave it a try and she skied it very well. flyod's was ok....a skier's right was a bit scraped off, but the left side held the chopped up crud. we spent the rest of the day playing in the bumps on exhibition....which was a good thing b/c the snow was starting to turn into a soupy mess in spots on the groomed terrain. après in the e2000 lounge finished the day off strong.

i like that little patch of bumps....a lot better than the ones that they had on challenge.

this is good stuff! let's hope these new guys don't screw it up again.....scranton has a long-standing track record of suck.

yesterday, the lady at the ticket window mentioned to me that $25 lift tix were probably going into effect this week.
