it's PA? LOL....

a ski only knows how much you weigh. chose a ski that you can fully work (i.e. flex fully). if it's a softer ski....that's ok. if it has two sheets of metal, that's ok also. if you get a ski that is too stiff for you, then that will inhibit your skiing.

b/c that's all CB has going for it. it spreads out laterally long the ridge...but it is not a steep mtn, it doesn't have a lot of vertical drop, it gets a lot of jerrys for northern new jersey/nyc who ski in their blue jeans......and you think that is comparable to anything in the catskills??

the skillz don't compare to anything in PA.....especially not CB. it has great horizontal.
-
even if it did, that's still pretty good for as long of a time as you spent up there. for a long weekend i figure it's gonna run us about $700 to $800.

the lifts are what keep the trails uncrowded. also good time to do the live TR's.
-
so about crowds at montage....there usually aren't any. so what you saw today is a busy day for montage. and i'm ok with that. i'd prefer to not have to deal with tru blue on the weekend. it's been nice having upper and lower fast track open and the long haul lift running. i did a few laps on the long haul today and it was good. the north face lift is my fav in PA. doesn't feel like PA at all down there. ROTD was boomer, but WL was shaping up nicely towards the end of the day. a few dudes had the right idea and had set up a small grill at the top of the north face lift and were tailgating there. you could smell it halfway up the lift. good times.

and they don't have that at blue mtn anymore. I was hoping to hit up the skier cross course on DW....but never made it over there. I love those types of courses. all the g forces, lol!

agreed. for as crowded as stowe can get, it can't even begin to hold a candle to k-mart on a weekend.

agreed. not carving. but allowing the skis to do the most of the work of the turn instead of us is the more efficient way to ski....especially on the RTM's that he's skiing.

patience and not too much rotary motion with the feet/legs. the side cut on today's skis make it super easy for the ski to turn w/o us inputting much rotary motion. here's an easy way to test it out: on a flat-ish and groomed trail, try to initiate a turn by putting most of your weight on one foot...see what happens. what you'll find is that the ski with the most weight on it will begin to turn automatically b/c of the side cut. i.e. if you weight your right foot, you will turn to the left. now, if you want a tighter radius and/or more edge grip through the turn, roll your ankles into the turn. but here's the trick.....you have to be patient and let the SKI do most of the turning instead of you twisting your feet and/or legs. THAT's the patience in the turn. it also helps to keep the skis pointed down the fall line for like a second or two to gain a little speed.....deep snow will slow you down really quickly, so you don't have to worry about getting out of control like that. play around with these concepts on groomed terrain first to get a feel for it, then find a nice deep spot to give it a shot.

I don't know what your fitness level is like, but it is normal for ppl to feel less energetic/fatigued towards the end of a long trip, especially if they aren't accustomed to skiing multiple days in a row w/o rest. for me, day 4 of a trip is pretty rough....but then days 5 and 6 my body rebounds a little.

yup. besides, the factory set bevels are good enough for the average recreational skier. to clarify....those of us who post on ski forums probably aren't the average recreational skier since we ski more days and are motivated enough to participate in such forum to discuss the sport. keep shredding salty!

More carve = more acceleration = more fun Learn to both carve and rotary/smear turns......one needs to do it all in real world skiing. FYI....check out the trees around the chapel. Good low angle gladed terrain in there. Some entrances may be "steep" but are very short and it is worth that initial "shock". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Salty....sounds like you got solid advice from the instructor....except for the ski width. Yes, we do a lot of drills on flat terrain at first in the race clinic. Then we take them into steeper terrain once we are comfortable doing them on the flats. I thought your video was pretty solid....no need to feel discouraged. A lot of times it's hard for us to soak in and apply all the instruction from a lesson. I consider it a win if I can apply one or two things from clinic in a season, lol. Keep it up!
