  1. Sweet, thanks... I'm thinking about the Legacy-R or the SL-R. Probably in either a 156 or 159 (but leaning towards staying at a 156 since it seems pretty comfy for my riding style). I want to hit up a shop though so I can compare the "mid-wide" Legacy to my current board. I don't have huge feet (9.5 boot), so I don't need a wide but i think a little girth might be a good thing overall. Thanks again man.
  2. What NS board are you riding? If you don't mind me asking... what size board are you on and how much do you weigh. Sorry to get all personal on you, but I'm thinking about a NS and trying to decide what size I want. I'm on a 156 Burton Custom now at 160lbs. It is a great fit for an all around board for me. I'm hoping stay around the same length as any longer is going to not be as fun to dick around on in the park or kickers. I also love to be in the trees, so I want something I can easily throw around, but still has some float-ability for dump days.
  3. sorry to hear it didn't work out for you... out of 4 people i know who tried to live up there you are now number 3 who curses it's name. can't say i'm surprised though.
  4. pretty sure he was referring to me
  5. http://www.brociety.com/ Has been dumping a ton of boards lately, and def a few of that variety. Not being online all the time makes it hard for you to capitalize on that, but keep your eye on it while at the library.
  6. Excellent... I think I'm pretty sold on them. Now I just need to figure out which model suites me the best.
  7. Have you gotten to ride the Unions at all? Like em? I'm really diggin the tech, and the write ups on them. Pretty sure they'll be my next bindings. Couldn't hurt to hear another review though.
  8. It's easy to plan a WINTER trip. However, in most of the US you're planning a Fall trip.
  9. That being said, she is a pretty committed person when she wants to learn something. I can't say that all significant others would put forth as much effort as her. She pretty much killed it this season. I think my bad luck with teaching an x to snowboard was more about her lack of effort. I think where a cheap easy access lesson is available (ie: snowboarding is way cheaper and easier to find then kayaking) I'd recommend that as a first step. That way if the significant other struggles because they straight up don't like it... they blame it on the lesson and not you. When they come to you again asking to go ride, then you know they actually like it and will prolly put out decent effort. The patience needs to come from both sides. The teacher needs to be patient about the lessons, and the student needs to understand they aren't going to become the teacher over night. I'm currently having good luck with my current GF in the climbing arena, but that is because she has a natural ability with it and enjoys it. I don't think I'm anywhere ready to teach her to kayak yet though... despite how frequently she talks about wanting to.
  10. It has always been my understanding that the avalung is a very small factor in staying alive in an avalanche. It certainly doesn't hurt to use one, but it usually isn't going to be your saving grace. It also seems to me like it would be quite difficult to keep that thing in your mouth while getting pummeled by an avalanche. I had a hard time keeping a mouth guard in during my days of full check ice hockey... so I can't imagine how hard it would be to hold onto that avalung. Anyway, I hate to criticize the guy at all as I can't say that I wouldn't had made the same mistakes, but it certainly makes one think.
  11. There were def mistakes in how he approached his line. From what I can tell though his buddies made a FANTASTIC rescue. That was a pretty sizable avalanche, and they got him out quickly and all seemed to keep there wits about them. Thank you so much for posting this up. I'm hoping to get out in the BC more and more every season, and while I tend to be a cautious person I will admit to having a small sense of being indestructible. Mainly because I haven't witnessed an avalanche, or anything like it. So it was hard to really wrap my head around the consequences. This video straight up gave me chills though. Not enough to keep me from wanting to get out, but def a jolt to brush up on my rescue and BC travel skills. Thanks.
  12. nothing just yet, but i forsee a pair of 32lashed in my future... and depending on how my room mate scenario turns out i have hopes for a Never Summer Legacy-R with Union Binders. We'll see about that though.
  13. i tired teaching an x of mine to ride... wasn't worth it at all. just complained the entire time and then gave me the cold shoulder in bed that night. pay for a lesson, your sex life will thank you.
  14. I've got buddies that have done it in SLC for sure. Another option would be Vail, as there is a small airport nearby that to my understanding is pretty much there to make it easier for people to ski there (and other nearby resorts). I'd have to think though that it would all be quite an investment to come all the way out here for what would more then likely be crappy conditions.
  15. Looks like a bunch more fell in the high county over the past 24hrs... They are predicting snow here at the low elevations today actually which is crazy. At any rate, looks like 70s down here this weekend, but hopefully it will stay cooler in the mountains, and some of this snow can stick around. I just wish the clouds would go away, I feel like I'm back in PA. I haven't seen the sun in 3 days, and that is RARE out here.
  16. Saw on the new last night that Conifer, CO got 10in yesterday. Can't confirm that, but I can say there is a ton of fresh snow in the mountains viewable on my drive to work. It is cold today, and if it can stay cold like this we may have a rather early start to the season.
  17. It's just not worth it. I've done my fair share of LONG hours in the car, and it just isn't worth it.
  18. Many will tell you that you can drive it straight through. I don't recommend it. Did the drive to Boulder twice now (just a few hours short os Aspen), and the best way is 2 long days. Adding the few more hours to get to Aspen I'd recommend doing it in three days for sure. It will be three 10hr days instead of two 15hr days. 15hr days are hard unless you have peeps to swap with while driving. Even the two 12hr days I did the last time were hard, and I was rotating the driving with someone. Long story short... you've got the right idea with the three day approach. Only do it in two if you have three+ people in the car all willing to drive equal amounts.
  19. You posting in a park thread is about as useful as an asshole on your elbow.
  20. Eh, those wide mouth gatorade bottles aren't quite big enough for me, i need the nalgene or it could get messy.
  21. ur good to go in walmart in the back of your car. i know plenty who have done it. keep an empty nalgene bottle with you to piss in since you can't exactly just get out and pee in the woods like you normally do camping. when finished, close the bottle tight and place it between your legs in your sleeping bag. you'll be super warm the rest of the night.
  22. They same the same thing about big women and mopeds... but you won't find me on either! ZING
  23. Wow, that is awesome. Stoked you had the chance to do that. Way to live up to you screen name girl. Killin it!
  24. Sorry Justin, I wasn't trying to be a buzzkill or anything. I just don't look at riding that as epic. I reserve that word for when we get dumped on and I'm blasting through the white room. It looks like fun for sure, and even cooler that it is free. Glad your getting at it. Yes I'm nitpicking over the use of a word that doesn't have a real meaning... oh well, haha.
  25. not sure if "epic" is the word to describe it, but it is certainly pretty damn cool. glad to see you got out.
