The Chronicles of Gnarnia A hero's tale. So today was closing day at Winter Park Resort in Winter Park, CO. Closing day is indeed a sad day, but it is the last chance to get out there and shred. Glenn (aka Glenn Dog, aka Glenn Deezey, aka Gleninator, aka Not Jeff, aka Turbo Tuck, aka Shifty McShifterson, aka Brat Worst) and I (Nick, aka N-Mizzle, aka, Belly Bonk, aka the Jump Turn Jet, aka Noodle Dork, aka The One Piece Pimp, aka Clam Chowder) hit it hard for the last day. We actually started the trip out yesterday with some pretty lame tree skiing. Trees are really pretty boring, and I never knew why, but I think it is because nobody can see you. It is really hard to high five your broski while you ride with all those trees in the way. Great training ground for jump turns though. Really that is all trees are for me, jump turn training. So after a disappointing day of powder and tree runs we hit up the lodge for some Pabst Blue Ribbon, and Bratwurst. Here is a shot of my Brat: And SOME PBR STOKE WHAT! That certainly brought our spirits back, and we were ready for some sweet apres ride bro down time. We got word of a parking lot party in the secret Sickler Lot, that only ones down with the Gnar Gnar are aware of (if you need to ask what that is, you're not ready to know). So we drove our whips over to the lot and started pounding Jager Bombs and more PBR. I tried taking some pics of us pounding at the bonfire, but the lighting was bad and nothing came out. This pretty much sums it up though: Between the Red Bull, and the super easy laid back day just riding in the trees it took us quite a bit to get tired. So we partied for quite some time, but eventually headed to our respected vehicles and crashed out for the night. I woke up at exactly 7:35 according to my Nokia celly, and went to find Glenn who also just woke up. We drove into town to fuel up for what looked to be the best day of the season. While at the McDonald's dining establishment we discussed the plan for the day. The plan was to shred as hard as possible since it was the last day. So after a McDonald's Deluxe Breakfast Platter and 2 cups of coffee I was ready to rock out with my cock out. We then drove to the lot on route 40 to the lot and booted up. Before leaving the car we threw back the last of the Jager from the night before, and washed it down with the last two Red Bulls. Now it was time to shred! I grabbed a shot of Glenn at the base before we hopped on the lift: And Glenn grabbed a shot of me as well: We headed straight to the the Half Pipe Park and hit every one of them with the steeziest airs. Glenn's airs though were so fast and nasty though that I was having some trouble getting shots with my craptastic point and shoot. Here though is a shot of Gleen just after a Quadruple Shifty Look Back just as he is getting back into his signature Turbo Tuck: This is a shot of me mid Tail Tap which I linked into a Boned Suitcase Method (probably my favorite trick there is): Another shot of me, this time I threw a Straight Air steezed out with a hang ten hand motion mid air and a turbo tuck hand skim (seen here): I then set up to get some shot of Glenn jibhonking his face off in this sick artistic shot: And again with Glenn hitting a SOLID Turbo Tuck 50-50: I then sesioned the rail for quite some time trying to master the 50-50 Hard Rock Look Back, and finally got it: We lapped the park quite a few more times, but kept the camera in my pocket so could work on my hand plants and board slashing. Eventually we moved over to the moguls and sessioned them hardcore. I'm feeling REALLY confident with my jump turns, and I'm even getting to the point where I can method grab every jump turn. Most of the mogul runs at WP are under the lifts. So I know my steeze must be getting good, because there were tons of people cheering for us as they passed over us on their way to the top. The highlight of my day though was inventing a new trick. The Head Tap Belly Bonk, but I don't want to give any details just yet because if I do next thing I knew Shaun White will be stealing the credit for it. It was a great day, and we Totally won. Great Season Glenn Dog, please fill in anything I forgot about (not my nasty mogul fall though)!

Yea, from what I understand they are pretty finicky. I was just going to build one to take on super light summer trips since I hear they are not great in extreme cold. I usually just take my JetBoil when it is just me. When the GF comes along we take her MSR stove. That thing rocks, but too much hassle when I'm alone. I'd rather just drop some ramen in the JetBoil and call it a night. I also think my can stove is cool cause it can cook with grain alchohol. So I can really lighten my load, as I normally carry a bottle of something anyway, haha.

Awesome report man. It is awesome to see people getting out and working for their turns. My buddies hiked up there last year. I was planning on going but was unable to skip class like they did. They got some sweet pics as well. Awesome man. P.S. I have a soda can stove as well. I was going to build one, but my girlfriends parents bought me one for Christmas that was made by some company. It is supposed to be the best possible soda can stove you can build, and the thing weighs NOTHING. Haven't been out and had the chance to light her up though. Maybe soon.

Sweet dude! Can't wait to come up this weekend!

I think most of the CO resorts are closing because they are starting to loose most of their staff. A lot of the big resorts bring people in from all around the world to staff the resorts, and most of those people are itching to take their ipods and american denim home so they can floss.

awesome pics as always bro. thanks for finally posting that shot of my on the cirque. it really shows how big it is. hope you heal up for gaper weekend next weekend!

Whats the closest mountain to burlington VT?
nick malozzi replied to Boarder1x9's topic in General Chat
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/Burlington+VT/Killington+VT/ 1.5hrs=nowhere near? Although Stowe, Smugs, and Mad River are closer. 1.5 hrs is certainly not that far outta the way though. Edit: Sugarbush is close too. -
Too easy, too freaking easy. Actually it was harder then I thought to find a pic that was appropriate, haha.

Yea, I live in Boulder though. If you can, just get out here. So worth it, haha.

Shadows can prolly comment better, but I think Copper is the closest to Timberline Campus, but I can't imagine you are that far from Breck and A-Basin. I mean You're in Summit County (right shadows?), so everything is wicked close.
-
The Leadville Campus which I believe they refer to as the Timberline Campus.

To my understanding it is a great school if you are looking to become a professional guide (climbing, rafting, kayaking, etc). I haven't heard much good bad or otherwise about any other programs besides what shadows just dropped. I'm hoping to start taking classes there soon so I can eventually become a climbing guide. Just need to put in a few years behind a desk to make some loot, and train on the weekends. Hopefully in 10 years my office will be my harness. Sick video by the way. You got balls bro, that was pretty big.

Haha nice, I hope there is so quality festivities at Winter Park in two weeks when they shut down. I've scored a killer one piece bib on ebay for the weekend. Keep an eye out for TR with pics.

That thing seems pretty sweet. It would be nice to have the option. I mean first few runs of the day when it is cold it would be cool. Then mid day hit up the chair. Hope to see one of those out this way soon.
