Yea i certainly wouldn't want to have anything to do with it now-a-days. I would love to find some sort of paid posistion though that could send me around the world, or even just this country for a few months to take photos. Just have to find the right place.

Yea i've been on glamour 1 before. My boss used to use it to get in touch with models a few years back. His passion is fashion photography. So he had me take a look. I am a portrait person myself. I like the interaction with the subject. I've also been getting more and more into nature photography though. My all time favorite thing to shoot though are my friends. I like just sitting quietly with a group of friends over a beer, on a hike, on the hill, or wherever and just snipe them with a long lens. They turn out to be portaits due to the longer lens (given i can isolate one person in the frame), but you catch a snap-shotty essence with it. Get to see the person for who they are, not how you want them to look while u have them under studio lights. I've always admired war photographers, but i'll admit that i don't have the balls to do it. You've had that image posted before, it is creepy yet amazingly beautiful. I shoot almost 95% digital. However i really only do that because i have access to high quality ink jet printers, and i don't have easy access to a dark room. So it us just more finacially forgiving for me to shoot/print digitally, and as a college student i'm broke as it is. I do however bust out the film camera every now and again. I have a Canon Rebel 35mm (for sale if anyone is interested), and the ultimate junk medium format camera, a Holga. Speaking of Holgas though it brings up the point of equiptment. It REALLY does not matter what gear you have. I have produced some amazing stuff with my 25dollar holga and a roll of fuji medium format. It just takes a good photog to know his limitations, push them, and even break past them. I'll post some of my stuff as soon as i get a chance to grab my stuff from work and resize all of it so it dosen't take an hour to upload.

Very well put ski. In my photographic imaturity i could not manage to express it as well as you. Bottom line is the equiptment that is out now-a-days makes takeing good pictures easy. To be a pro you have to be able to take good pictures and make them great. My boss always says "it's easy to take beautiful pictures of beautiful things, try taking beautiful pictures of ugly things." Something we deal with everyday at work when dealing with people. Lets face it, there are some ugly folks out there... shit i'm one of em. I meant to burn some of my work to a cd today at work so i could post some of the shots i've gotten, but i got too busy printing stuff for my portfolio. So maybe tomorow i'll have something to post. I sorta feel like i need to put my money where my mouth is.

I agree with ya ski... That is what i was getting at when i said that jeff could have achieved the same images with a point and shoot. It is much more about the technique and your own creativity. One of the best things my boss did was make me use a Fuji s2 with an old metz flash to shoot my first ice hockey game. Probably one of the faster sports out there, and i'm shooting with a HUGE bulky metz flash that couldn't be set to TTL with the s2. So here i am hanging this enormous set up over the top of the glass at a Midget Ice hockey game (if my memory serves me correct that is the 15-17yr olds) whils standing on some sketchy scafolding. Man you learn to anticipate action when you have that much weight to move around and tons of shutter lag. Just to clarify, since i notice jeff hasnt said anything... i wasn't trying to insult anyone or talk all high and mighty. It just gets frustrating sometimes since everyone thinks they are a professional. There is a lot more to it then buying a nice camera and takeing pictures of pretty things. Being a pro means you can pick your camera up after you drop it in the middle of a shoot, fix what broke, and keep going. Then when it is all said and done deliver the images to the customer and keep them happy all under a deadline. Like i said, i am sure ski knows what i am talking about there. However, keep shooting, i never discourage others who just want it as a hobby, or even want to try and be a pro. Keep working at it, but respect those who have been around awhile.

I'm garbage? I work full time (when not in school) for a professional studio...hmmm As far as the pics you posted... you could get that same quality from a decent point and shoot. They are great shots... but don't forget you are taking STILL shots of a good looking car in front of one of the most over used backdrops in the lehigh valley. Again, i'm not trying to insult you, but being a professional photographer is an entirely differtent ball game. I am sure ski can concure.

What size are the missons?
-
Get me in for free too, and i'll through my shots into contention. Jeff the reason u grew out of the d50 so fast is because that camera is garbage.
-
seems a bit early to ask this... but who plans to be there opening day? i'm gonna try my best to make it this year.

B&H is very reputable, and actually has a pretty competitive price for the D70S. Nikon D70S
-
It is a bummer your not a nikon guy ski. I shoot professionaly as well, and i'm all nikon and love it. I can understand though that going back and forth is a pain. The d70 is nice though, i actually use one every now and again at work. I used a d200 for a little bit, and for the price of it i found it wasn't worth it. At that point you may as well buy a d2x. i won't go back to cannon. i had a 35mm rebel and can't stand all the plastic. my gear gets tossed around a lot, and i don't want it to go down because a plastic part broke.

The kid who was supposed to come see it saturday never called me to come take a look. So it is still here and available. Please get in touch via AIM or PM if you are interested. Thanks!

Stock: yea it is stock, no aftermarket stuff, just a cap. hp: i dunno, go check online. i mean it is a 91 GMC sonoma, i was never really concerned about hp, it isn't exactly built to be a speed demon. I guess i'm a hypocrit. I just bought a 96 Suby Legacy Outback. Couldn't find a VW i liked for the right price. Although i guess the suby wasn't either. About a grand more then i really had to spend. THAT IS WHY YOU NEED TO BUY MY TRUCK! I LOWERED THE PRICE! PLEASE BUY IT! SEE OTHER THREAD ABOUT IT!

My family had a 99 outback, and i was never all that impressed. I mean it certainly kicked some ass in the snow, but i didn't like the feel of it's handeling on dry road. I also managed to break it loose in the snow twice and almost total it. So the awd didn't impress me enough to pay the extra for it. Still hunting down the right VW.

dubs are where it's at. i'll have mine real soon. you all could help me make it a lot nicer simply by purchasing my truck i have for sale on here. haha. u know u all want it.

I've been saying something similar to this for years now. However, my opinion is a sick jib park with magic carpets next to each jib so you can session them and not get so tired from the hiking.

When will be Blue's last day? Let the arguing begin!
nick malozzi replied to Old Geezer's topic in Blue Mountain
I'm guessing the 19th as well. Seems like a logical prediction when you look at the calender. I am hoping for April 2nd though... my 21st bday! -
That's awesome. I heard it was pretty nuts out there after the super bowl. I'd love to shoot a pro game one day. I am not a huge football fan, but just to put some pro stuff in my portfolio would be awesome. I've got youth, high school, and college covered. So some pro players would be a nice addition. My boss made it down to the eagles training camp this summer and got some great shots of TO and mcnabb with his 300mm, but i couldn't come with him because i was busy. Maybe next season.
-
Yea you really have to watch with lower quality lenses in that zoom range. Even with nikon, we've had problems with our sigma lenses in that range, but the pro nikons aren't as bad. I'd love to know why that range lens gives such soft focus/back focusing issues. RAW is fun to play with, but i don't have much experience with it. Seems as though you are enjoying it. With such a huge sized image why not crop those people out or at least the fence. Or if you want to make it real sweet go into photoshop and take them out. As i said before... horay photography!

I'm glad it happened this time around though! Off to the pool hall. Behave while i'm gone.

^me celebrating for the first topic hijack i actually hoped would happen.

the exif data is saying it was shot on a EOS Digital Rebel XT? Is that just another way of saying EOS 350D? I am a nikon guy so i don't understand the Canon naming convention. Good shot though. You could have probably bumped the aperature up a stop or 2 and let the AP pick a slower shutter speed. Would have brought more into focus, but f8 is certainly a good choice for the shot and there is nothing wrong with what you did. Just nit-picky photo geek stuff, sorry. haha. Edit: although on second thought opening the apertaure a little more and slowing down the shutter speed may have blurred the people on the school hill depending on how fast they were going and how low of a shutter speed the AP selected to obtain the proper exposure. However as long as your about 250 or higher on the shutter speed you prolly would have been ok. Play around! yay photography.
