  1. a saturday? does that seem weird to anyone else? glad for the notice, but sad for the end. frown.
  2. as far as people not understanding their limits, or their kids' limits, this season especially has convinced me that like 90% of parents who take their kids skiing/boarding secretly hate their kids and WANT to see them get hurt. no other explanation for parents who take their kids who are barely big enough to carry around their own equipment literally screaming their way down blue and black trails there's no way in hell they were ready for while the parent trails behind yelling useless advice. it's really sad. it's a shame this happened to this kid. so many people don't seem to understand how badly hurt you can get, no matter how good you are.
  3. how's the rest of bear? haven't been up since sunday, i imagine this week hasn't been kind to it. is it worth going up on friday?
  4. almost every day i've been there this season (and i've been like 20+ days), you could have walked up and gotten on any of the lifts without paying.
  5. ya... that just seems like it would be asking for all kinds of trouble... just had a panicky moment where i read phrases like "waste water" and "bathtubs, sinks, washing machines, dishwasher etc.", and freaked the eff out... just misunderstood where they were when they were discussing placement.
  6. plus, what would stop random people from working on like half the features at one time. like instead of having one or two blocked off for maintenance, some people could decide like every other thing needs work... it would get super annoying. ditto what mikey said, plug it up and enjoy the rest of the season.
  7. i think it's weirdly fun. the few times i've done it, mostly at bear and blue, it's cool cause a lot of time there's fog, which makes otherwise super-familiar trails a new challenge, and kind of awesomely otherwordly. park isn't as much fun though, boxes get super slippery, jumps get super mushy. just sit on your hands on the lift so your ass stays dry, take it easy to avoid soggy falls, and enjoy it!
  8. um. i'm just throwing out there that i did nastar one wednesday night in early january when they were blowing on timberline. my face got completely coated and for the next solid week, i broke out like i'd never broken out before (and i do not break out). i was a few days away from going to a doctor about it, it was out of control. was i getting people's old bathwater shot in my face? seriously? on to more important things, if bear could make it to 3/30 i'd do a happy jig. i mean, preferably it would be open til like memorial day but let's be real, it's a mid-atlantic resort. how badly did today's rain mess things up?
  9. it's important for everyone to remember when commenting on here that the more complaints you make, the less people are going to listen to you. one of the things that i really thought was cool was how last year mark and mary were on here quite a bit, addressing peoples' concerns and issues and whatever. when a board/thread turns into an endless bitchfest, whatever validity your points may have had are just wasted. not like it really matters at this point, since the weather situation looks like we don't have much time left. but maybe take some time and think about whether every little thing that bugs is worth posting about.
  10. well, apparently i'm in the minority because i had a great two past days at bear.... probably the happiest/funnest of the whole season so far. too many people bitching, imho
  11. stop fightin'! (said in the vocal stylings of mr hankey)
  12. just joined. woo.
  13. today was awesome. weather was great, conditions were great, ok, maybe a few too many kids on leashes for my liking but what are you gonna do. and to whoever the guy was who totally sprayed the dumb biatch skier all in pink who was just kind of sitting hanging out on the landing of the first jump at the top of black bear, that was hilarious and awesome. i'm so glad i got to see that.
  14. looks decent for a little bit of fresh snow tonight... it's already snowing here in philly. i'll bring it up with me.
  15. from bear's site: 2/19/2008 6:30AM: Our groomers pushed a lot of piles last night to get the slopes in perfect shape for your visit today! Come out and show your appreciation for their hard work! i'm curious as to where these piles came from. but it also looks good for blowing tonight, YEAH.
  16. there's a lot that could happen, but at the risk of being a total debbie downer i'm really anticipating an early close. i hope it doesn't happen, but i'm afraid it might.

    anyone?

okay... the most disturbing gaper trend that i saw today was the apparent invasion of the furries. i saw not one, not two, but THREE people wearing fuzzy rabbit ears over their helmets today. they were not all together. they were also far too old for it to be 'cute' (although i find that kind of thing a little squicky and not always cute on little kids) ... it was borderline disturbing. one of these parties was wearing fuzzy rabbit ears, and jeans. it was truly a sight to behold. please tell me someone else saw this. so if there is a bear gaper day, i'm totally breaking out last year's halloween playboy bunny costume. with my pants lower than usual so the tail hangs out. and be the gapiest gaper that gaped.
  18. i've gotta say, it was a LOT better today than i had thought it would be. there were some puddles, but coverage was a lot better than i'd anticipated. i was kicking myself for not getting up sat or yesterday... stupid lack of car until today. but yeah, i was wondering how much longer they'd keep trying to push it after this weekend. pres day is usually their last big hurrah... how much more of a season can we hope for after this?
  19. really?!?!?! BALLS. i was thinking monday was the day that everyone who was doing a ski weekend would be going home. so what i'm coming away with is i should have come up this morning. f. what if i go SUPER early monday morning?
  20. i think last year i made the vow to never again go on president's day weekend. i'm thinking monday.... maybe the crowds won't be AS bad then?
  21. how is the coverage situation up there? anyone go last night or today? it was getting pretty thin in some spots sunday, and we haven't caught a break since then, i'm wondering if it's worth going up tomorrow...
  22. yesterday was ridiculous. a lot of fun, but ridiculous. highlight for me... on my first run, cutting over to the f chair, i ran through the family park and saw some kid lying on the ground right on the landing of the last box (what's it called... it's flat at first and then angles down? whatever) anyway, i asked him if he was ok, he said yeah, i'm just lying here, and i was like, you should move over to the side, you're right in the landing and people coming through can't see you here. he kind of sat up and said "whatever, i don't need to listen to you" and then just that second BAM. he got hit..... hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
  23. i'm sitting in my office listening to the rain POURING outside and feeling a little sick about it. i'd like to humbly request a for-reals winter. i'll even submit it in writing if i must.
  24. and this is kind of why i'm so reluctant to "just go ahead and hit the park" as someone on here once recommended.... i really don't want to be that person who pisses in the pool wrecking shit for everyone. i know i'm gonna wipe out like a zillion times while i'm learning.
  25. hee! i'm 29 and my geriatric ass is planning on taking a sick day with a park coach in the next 3 weeks or so. i can ride whole mountain pretty well, but just totally lack the balls to make myself just go and do it. i really just need someone to push me. (when you're raised by parents who work in the medical profession, you're infused with this whole idea of avoiding risk no matter what... it takes a lot to shake that message) so hopefully we'll both be throwing down by the end of the season. good luck!
