Hey all,

I got back earlier from a very cold day of boarding Eagle Rock Mountain. I departed the OC at 5:30 AM and it was 31 degrees. The ride was going well and I was able to hold a pretty good speed since the roads were empty. That changed when I came blasting out of the Lehigh Tunnel at 7:30 onto a snow covered road with Blizzard like conditions, it was 14 degrees and I slowed it down for the remainder of the trip. I arrived at Eagle Rock at 8:15 bought a ticket and booted up at the Summit Lodge and then drove down to the Base and parked there, where it was 7 degrees.

The mountain has a vert of 550 ft. and consists of 12 trails, but combined forms 6 top to bottom runs. 2 of them, one green on the left side and one green, to blue, to black combo on the right side are both a mile long. They have two side-by-side double chairs that run straight up the center and all of the trails empty out to them at the base. Down the middle they have 3 black trails with a very nice head wall, steeper than anything at BB, but not as steep as the East Mt. at JF. The terrain can be best described as a mixture of a BB and a JF, parks not included.

The snow was very hard cord that was not softening do to the lack of sun and skier traffic. I did not stand in one line, never shared a chair and never had anyone closer than 6 chairs in front or back of me. After 16 runs I was getting cold and decided to call it a day. I am fairly certain that next year my family will have season passes there, as I think it is a great place to teach young children the basics with out worrying about them getting plowed over. The base lodge is very nice and parking is available less than 20 ft from it and 100 ft from the lifts making it perfect for unloading a family and all of their stuff. On the way home I busted up a chicken sandwich, cheeseburger, fries and a coke from McDonalds.

Nice report. I've been wanting to check Eagle Rock out.

Did they have all of the trails open?

No, the trail on the far right was closed, but they were blowing on it. It's a great option on holiday weekends.

eagle rock is a good place to learn how to ride. However in order for them to open up a majority of there good trails they need a good cold spell do to the lack of snowmaking they have I may not be right as of now, last time i was there was 2 years ago and then they had maybe 20 snowguns top and one groomer so conditions can either be good or bad

One major thing to watch with them is they advertise like crazy for what they do not offer example terrain park ( they do not know the first thing about building a terrain park or half pipe)

If you are interested in learning to ride go there (there ski school is pretty good) and there beginner trail are pretty easy except for the steep spot going into the small lift you also have to watch out for the uneven grooming, on a couple of the trails they tend to pull people into the wood when they dont know how to hold an edg

also the mountain doesnt have much room for intermediate riders it is either really flat or steep they do a have 2 decent trails that go to the bottom of the mountain but they are long and usually open late in the season if not at all i could remember 2 seasons they did not open them

lift lines are non existant there except when a bus comes you will get a line on the small lift but the long lift lines are almost non existant the lifts do make very long non expectant stops

If you want to learn to ride or get away from people and have the whole mountain to yourself i would suggest going there if they have all there trails open

IIRC they are only open on Fri, Sat, Sun., and holidays.

Sounds like a good option anytime for making laps without crowds.

Have you skied there before? Do they only sell tickets at the top lodge?

Thanks for posting the trail map.

I use to ride they all the time a couple of years ago because I live in Hazleton, but they are only open 3 days a week, and lately they have been opening up very late into the season and closing the earliest because they never have any snow. They keep the mountain there just to sell house and lots. I would stay away for getting a pass there just because it hard to get your money worth. But if you are just starting it a good place to go a couple of times.

They only sell tickets up top and the bottom lodge is hardly every open it mostly for weddings

Adult season passes are $219

Junior (7-15) passes are $169

Kids 6 and under are free

I think it is a great place for weekend only skiers with young children (3-5) to visit and learn. The Base lodge is open early, but the bar and food service opens at 11:00. Once the kids are older (6-9) and more experienced I would prefer JF or Sno, because they have more terrain, but are still less crowded than CB and Blue.

You love McDonalds after skiing...Here in Jackson they have the McRib...don't ask me how I know this....

Yep, It hits the spot...since I've been flying solo I am taking advantage of the fast food. If my wife was with me, we would hit Barley Creek or Terra Cottage and drop 50 bucks on lunch.
