yeah that blue mt park is something to behold

Whatever you want to say at the size, I have never seen a mountain as icy during the day as Blue was the day I went this year, not even Mountain Creek. They do a much better job grooming JFBB. I don't care how much vert you have, if the snow sucks it sucks, and honestly if I want to lap something midweek I can go to Camelback and get just as much vert with super fast lifts with much better grooming than Blue. Blue has to offer something more than statistics to convince me it is superior because there is nothing knock your socks off about it.

Really? I think blue's grooming sucks, and the trails get super beat. At the same time, I think thats what makes it a good freeriding mountain. Ripping down perfect cord is nice, and makes you feel like a good rider, but when you can do the same thing over bumpy, incosistent and often icey conditions, you ARE a good rider. I think the stuff on east side of JF will do the same thing for your riding, BUT you don't pick up as much speed, and you aren't sustaining the level of intense riding nearly as long. Camelback really has nothing besides bumps and a super sketchy (when icey) one turn hump to really make you work at getting better.

X 2. I'll lap Mittl-Weg at BB any day over an icy Razors at Blue. I don't think it's poor grooming at Blue, I think the warmer temps have something to do with it. The snow keeps a higher water content and it doesn't groom as well, hence the ruts.

WHAT???

They can't be more than 5 degrees apart on average, even that would be a bit hard to believe. I think you can literally see the top of boulder from blue mountain. There is no way the temperatures make that much of a difference. Wind may be a huge factor regarding the quality of snow at blue since it is so exposed on multiple slopes, but temperature? I'm not buying it.

There is a 7 to 8 degree difference. I get on the T-Pike at Lake Harmony, to go to Blue. That much of a difference does affect snow quality.

I used to see that much of a difference from lake harmony to the base of CB. Both in the morning before riding and in the afternoon after riding.

It comes down to the grooming mostly. The snow quality plays a part in it, but then that just falls back on the ability of the snowmakers. JFBB has better snowmaking and grooming. JFBB has some of the best grooming in the east. I'm in VT right now and the grooming is lackluster. Having good operators in good machines makes a huge difference.

I would imagine that speed also plays a role, relating to how fast the groomers go.

That is absolutely true.....which is why good groomers turn the ground-speed down a little and take more time to make thing turn out nice. Any idiot can blast up and down the hill as fast as possible.
