Ty and I headed over for a few runs for her to test out her new skis. We drove up the access road through rain, then sleet, then a steady snow around 3pm. The lot was emptier than I've ever seen it. We got coated in snow just trying to boot up in the lot. I'd checked the webcam before leaving, so I knew they were open, but would have been worried by how few cars there were. Anyway, the top of the mountain was shrouded in heavy clouds and we took the Iron Horse up through heavy snow and fog. Switch was def blown on, so Thursday night's race league should be a go. And Spike has 30'+ piles of snow the cats are pushing around. I've never seen so much snow on a Pocono slope. They've been using a huge number of Pole Cats to pile it up. Looks like the imaginary 22' pipe will be open in a few days for the BB kids and Rob to hate about ;) Isn't it sort of like a bunch of diehard ski racers bitching about a ski area that puts in a 70mph Super G course? IDK, I guess it's none of my business.

There were a few inches of fresh snow over the groomed cord, which was a lot of fun. We didn't hit the NF because Ty was nervous about the 10 extra cm, so we just raced each other down the upper slopes. The first couple of runs we didn't see anyone either on the slopes or on the lifts, but six boarders showed up around 5pm.

I kind of expected to take one quick run in the rain, but it turned out to be an awesome snowy afternoon. It's so cool to have a ski area to yourself in a snow storm...something we really miss since Tanglwood shut down.

Ty is scared of fresh snow? Ski, I know you racers like hardpack, but really how sick would it be for a 10cm storm to put you knee deep. I understand if you don't want her turning into a freehealer though...

It sounds like he was referring to the ski length.

Oh, that could be. I'd be scared of WL on my first day riding something 10 cm longer.

It's funny, but she doesn't want to ski diamonds unless it's with her coaches. The Devo Team spends probably 80% of the day on the NF, but she gives me a hard time if I want to do laps down there with her. I just respect it and don't push her because she usually votes for Boomer when the coach asks which run next...but WL is the one slope they don't ski, which is fine with me.

Do they do any bump training at that age or any with the race team? Obviously you're never going to have a mogul field in the middle of a SL but bumps certainly teach you a new/different level of control over your gear

Just curious.

Yeah, Sno has a hidden bump run down the right side of Boomer that they ski. Her coaches, though, make a point of searching out and having them ski just about everything. The Devo Team is about learning to carve turns and handle the entire mountain, which is why they also take them through the parks. I posted a pic a while back of them going down Boomer under the guns when big fluffy moguls had built up. I thought Ty was going to be miserable, but she said it was her favorite thing to do. But we get those kinds of bumps about twice a month.

Ty is the shyest, quietest, most fragile little girl you could imagine, which is why I'm so amazed that this thing has been working out so well. It really is a testament to the coaches, which is one huge reason Sno has earned my loyalty.
