Word from the bosses is that the guns will go on all over the mountain Saturday night as soon as temps permit and run non-stop until temps go bad....

The NF tonight was pretty good. Smoke is closed to prep for the weekend races, which will be the first time USSA has held a multi-state championship for high school racers. Another big event for Sno, which had earlier held PA Cup races. The best slope was WL, which had been groomed recently and had some great soft snow on skier's left. Pretty amazing how the flooding rains really didn't seem to have any effect on the mountain. Our regular race night went off on Switch and coverage seems to be edge to edge everywhere. There was one tour bus in the lot, which I just happened to get behind when I was leaving. We did 20mph all the way to the railroad tracks. Must be hard to drive those things in the dark. Groomers were running the cats all over Spike, mostly working on a jump above the pipe.

Saturday is going to be absolute crap if the forecast holds, but it'll be a cold rain and Sunday should be prime.

:rock . The one thing that I noticed about Sno is that they have a hard time at the begining of the year, but seem to end strong.

Yeah, you're right, Big. Early staffing issues, maybe? Funny, but I heard from two different people the idea that was floated around here last season about a $10 pass for the NF during April. Everyone pays, including passholders. No amenities, just the blue ticket trailer. It's looking like a better and better idea with $3.27+ gas prices, which makes a trip to Belleayre cost $30+ in gas plus the lift ticket.

I think they will start strong maybe next year or the year after. Construction of the water park, I think, is first on the agenda. I feel skiers will have to suffer at the start until they have completed all the construction projects. When all the construction is completed, look out, I think they will go full blast from the first cold snap.

I have a terrible feeling that Sno is starting to look alot like Camelback. I'm worried that skiing will come second to the waterpark in the future like at camelback :(

I'm pretty sure that as long as Mr. Carlson is Prez of Sno, skiing will always be the priority, though. The waterpark is like a fundraiser for the ski area. With CB, all the water rides are mixed in with the skiing; at Sno, you'll escape the unburried rides when you're down on the NF, sort of like how CB is when you're just lapping Cliffy. With the current weather and economic trends, the ski areas that are a little out of the way will have to have summer features to survive. Just my 2 cents...
