Ski Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 I just wandered over to the Montage website and it says all the diamonds were closed Friday night. I had to work at my home hill, so I hadn't gone over, but is this just the website being screwed up or did the weather hit that hard? Quote
xNick11 Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 naw its the weather...it rained all last night then snowed during the day but im pretty sure they are making snow to build the snow back up so hopefully tomarrow it will be back to normal or atleast close to it. Quote
Sno Mountain Skier Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 actually there website was wrong the only slope open on the north face open was boomer. boomer was open all day but the lift broke. they got the lift working around 4:30. boomer opened somewhere around 5. Quote
Ski Posted January 15, 2005 Author Report Posted January 15, 2005 Thanks. Without at least one slope open I'd have headed to Elk. The rain did weird things to our home hill: with streams running under the snowpack, you'd ski along and have a cave-in...sort of like sinkholes all over the place. Â Also--- welcome xnick11! Quote
xNick11 Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 Also--- welcome xnick11! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> .....ya thanks Quote
Schif Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 Are they going to be able to start blowing on the park now that they have to fix the north face? Quote
Ski Posted January 15, 2005 Author Report Posted January 15, 2005 Are they going to be able to start blowing on the park now that they have to fix the north face? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They had to postpone junior races from the left side of that slope from this weekend until March 5/6. That isn't a good sign for getting snow guns over there, but it may only be a scheduling issue. We used to always be able to count on CB to get Cliffhanger open by a certain date because of the annual Corchnoy race. Quote
Sno Mountain Skier Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 they are blowing on switch right now. they are trying to get the race side done before the park. they lie to me on the phone to many times. first they were gonna start on the park on friday but now we have to wait for the whole slope to open before they start. Ski Posted January 16, 2005 Author Report Posted January 16, 2005 Took a couple of quick runs...Boomer is the only diamond open right now. They are blowing hard on the North Face, especially on Smoke. The rain really set everything back. Couldn't tell what they were working on up top, except for all the circles on the right side. Quote
Sno Mountain Skier Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 they were blowing to the extreme on highball today. they had a couple of piles about 15 or 20 ft deep. Quote
Ski Posted January 16, 2005 Author Report Posted January 16, 2005 It just seems that it if you have coverage on Mainline, then what's the purpose of duplicating the terrain by blowing so hard on Highball and not hitting Switch and/or the other runs over on that side? Mainline and Highball are so wide that they take a lot of effort to cover, when some more usefull terrain could be opened sooner. I dunno...I guess they have a plan. Quote
Sno Mountain Skier Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 they are blowing on switch. they started on switch at about 6 pm friday. i think that smoke and cannonball will be open tommorow. from what i saw on the lift today smoke looked like it had more snow on it now then it did when it first opened. i was happy to see they had snow side to side on smoke. Schif Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 Is the park side of switch going to be all we're going to get this year, or will they try to put a big park on upper/lower fast track if and when they open it? Quote
Sno Mountain Skier Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 i think it is going to be just swich. Quote
Sno Mountain Skier Posted January 16, 2005 Report Posted January 16, 2005 (edited) everything is open on the north face today except lightning. boomer has the best comditions of any slope. they let it get bumped all over. there are great lines everywhere. there are some moguls about 2-4 ft high.
