what would be nice for next season

After visiting Stratton and seeing the kids have such a blast on their beginner terrain park, I was wondering why Boulder doesn't have something like that. Since they market their mountain as basically 70%+ park, why don't they have anything small? They could easily fence off a sliver of one of the beginner trails and put up a few features. With a place for little kids to ride maybe this would also alleviate some of the problems of the kids wandering into the more advanced sections. Just a thought.

for little kids like mine Freedom is still big. Stratton had a park that was geared towards kids under 10.

I saw that park at Stratton too but I don't think it is a good idea. The rails are too small, the jumps too small, they form bad habits. If the rail is 4' long then you go incredibly slow (opposite of what you should do), if the jump is just a little ramp that lands on flat you don't get a feel for the goal of getting past the knuckle (opposite of what you should do) so I'm not quite sure what you get out of it. The sweet spot is a 10' long rail that you actually get to ride for a bit, probably a ride on, probably a foot wide, with a mellow landing, low to the ground. There are 3 at Jack Frost's One Park. I think the best park for learning around here is Mountain Creeks though, they have so many trails they just setup one as the ideal mini park and it was really good for teaching this year. Same thing as One Park in size, but 8 rails like that instead of 3. A couple of mini jumps, and instead of just flat boxes they had some flat/down and mini battleship type stuff that was good too.

If they had fun, they had fun. One day they will stop having fun there and go to a bigger park where there are features requiring better technique.

In the meantime...

I think last year BB had a hike park with some small featuers that anyone could hit. A big butter box with a ride on lip, and some small boxes and rails. I think you are commited to JF/BB, but I think Bear Creek also has a park with features like the ones you are talking about.

they do its called Grizzly family park with a box about 15 foot long and, small flat down, a short shotgun rail then on the left side they have 3 small table tops about 6 feet long...all these rails/boxes are less than a foot off the ground

yeah bears mini park is not only great for others to learn on but also sick to learn new tricks on. i know when i learned switch 270 i tried it first in the big park and fell a ton of times which kinda got me wierded out so i went to the little park and got it after a few tries because its soo much easier to get back up when you fall off super small stuff.

All big boulder cares about is having recognition for having a huge park. They couldn't care less that their parks are too big for 90% of their customers. Small parks just don't get them recognition. Its almost comical, that just 3 years ago they only had ride on rails, and now they refuse to make any of them ride on for people to learn on.

For next year:

Maintain the 2 jumps in Freedom so there are 2 small jumps to dial in new tricks you are learning.

It would be GREAT if a few people got together to do a season rental of a ski house near JFBB so you have a place to sleep if you want to hit JFBB 2 days in a row.

Also, you would have a place where people can hang out with other people who are as serious about riding/skiing as you are.

Having an alternative to the cigarette smoke filled Shenanigans to hang out at night would be nice as well.

All costs would be split evenly among "shareholders" and the costs would be a lot lower than I think people are expecting.

or you could make friends with locals and just crash at their place. but if you wanna spend money i guess that works too.

as for the topic on hand, i think boulder needs to get over itself. last season i thought the parks were great. this season, it just seemed like there was so much hype that they didnt live up to. boulder park was sick, but i wish that there was some smaller hits to practice new stuff on, the stuff on love felt fairly big to me.

I agree with everything you posted.

I think Boulder Park is sick and it serves it's purpose well.

But, I liked being able to warm up on Freedom for my first couple runs and then head over to the bigger jumps on Love.

The 2 "jumps" on Freedom have been "bumps" for a LONG time.

I think that I would have progressed much more this season if there were something smaller than the jumps on Love for me to dial stuff in on.

The park crew has done an AWESOME job this year and I thank them every time I see them in the park.

But, the jumps in Freedom were left to go to waste and I think that is a shame.

I hope to grow some balls this weekend and just throw some rotations on Love that land in the pocket.

That's why I've been on PASR looking for people to ride with.

I feel more comfortable throwing stuff when I ride with a crew.

I hear ya. My ex-GF is a local and I met her at BB.

But, I don't want to be a "mooch" and look for a "free" place to stay. I'd rather pay my own way.

That's why I'd like to put together a seasonal rental.

But, if any locals wants to meet up and ride BB,

let me know.

Rails and boxes buried into the snow seems like a legitimate request.

I would like to see them have freestyle lessons or a school or a season long program.

Also more little jumps or rollers, little hips is also a good idea.

I would like to see an end of the year comp with one big jump at 70+

Edit:

use the old broke cutter to do some quarter pipe.

step up/over style jumps.

more long rails like the FDF in the plaza

Moto cross rollers.
