so tonight me and my two friends are up at camelback inside eating dinner. we go back outside to hit the slopes. well my genious friend forgets to lock his board and just leaves it in the board locks without it locked so he goes to get it, its not there. he starts worrying is running around looking runs to the parking lot and goes to see if he can find the culprit. and so me and my other friend are looking around and i see a security gaurd, and ask him what we can do. i said my friend just got his board stolen and he says what does it look like i describe it '05 burton dominant, cartel bindings brown top. and they said we have it. they told me they caught the kid walking out with two boards and when the undercover gaurd spotted him he confronted him and he broke and told him he and his friend just stole it. then the security gaurd takes me back to there room tells me the kids are in handcuffs already and the police are on there way. my other friend runs to get my friend who is looking for the kid in the parking lot. we tell him he is so happy, then hes not so happy anymore. the cop tells us that he has to keep the board as evidence and probably wont get his board back till THE END OF THE SEASON!!! my friend is flipping out on the cop and hes like i will see what i can do. so the cop is going to call him tommorow and for now he has to use his old board. but the cop said can get his board back right then if he dropped the charges, but my friend wants to make them suffer so hes going to press charges and he knows someone at the loft and will prob just get a nice burton rental for cheap so it is ok.

I love how the kid striaght up tells the undercover guy that he stole the board. It's sweet he got the board back. I know lots of people who aren't as lucky. Even some people who locked their equipment got it stolen. I don't understand the whole keeping the board thing either, except that I know there are certain rules about not tampering with evidence. The price of the board may be a factor, and if for instance, the bindings were swapped for the actual court case, so $700 bindings, then it may change from a lower theft charge to a higher one, because the value of the stolen item. Just a guess though. Still sucks he loses his board. I really would have thought about letting the kid go, just so I could ride. Then agian, I don't have a backup.

My friend had his board stolen at Mountain Creek and it was recovered at the Loft when the dumb asses tried to sell it. The serial number was tracked and the PA State Police arrested the guy. They kept his board for a week or so then they called him to come get it. So chill out let the cops do their job and you will get it back soon. Just be glad that CB secuity was on top of shit out there and was on the look out for the bad guys.

It's called the rules of evidence. Don't be surprised if it actually goes to trial if your friend has to testify. An inconvience yes, but necessary. Also a great civics lesson.

That's amazing that they caught him. Stupid to walk away with two boards. Probably the only way of being caught, you know?

My suggestion: get a copy of the police report, which will have the kid's home address. Drop the charges and get your board back. Visit the kid's house when you're sure nobody is at home. Burn his house down.

Then everyone is happy. You have your board and he doesn't have a police record.

I generally hate people who whore their home mountain, BUT, I think the free ski/board check at Blue was the best way to handle a bad situation. They knew they had heavy theft rates, and instead of paying security guards to look for people with two snowboards, they put up the check stations. CB seeks out the crowds and the type of people who will do things like this (not true skiers or boarders) and they should be able to keep control of them.

Do I sense a Jeff bash :lol . You are right though, blue made good out of a bad situation. Its was certainly cheaper paying a few guys to do the check in check out, and setup the area than pay a bunch of partially effective security guys.

I don't trust most locks.

I use the Kryptonite C4 combination lock and I think it is one of the better ones out there.

I have a lock by another manufacture but the cable could be cut with simple plyers. Ya need something strong so thats why I started using the Kryptonite.

It may not stop all theifs but it is a deterant that will make your board less of a target so they go for someone elses that is not locked.

My friends will spend $700 on snowboard stuff then don't buy a $14.00 lock. Makes no sense especially after being told about how many boards are stolen each year.

$14. + 30 seconds to lock your board or $700 for new stuff? Ya should'nt have to but its worth carrying a lock.

Your link is broken, but yeah, locks are a no brainer investment. I have a decent one, I'm sure someone could cut it if they had something big, but like you said it's a deterant. I just want the robber to go to the next board, I don't need an inpeneratrable fortress around my board.

Well if the bonehead tries to cut the lock I guess he would probably get caught rather easily.

Eh, my friend got his lock clipped at big boulder a few years back. He was inside for 5 min at most. They never found the guy and it was a brand new board. It really dosn't look that weird if your really close to the lock, like close enough to hide the wire cutters you would need. Also it doesn't look that wierd if it take a little bit of time for you to get the lock cut, because it takes a little time to unlock a lock. The key is get a thick lock that needs something like a bolt cutter to cut it.
