Brian Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 No love for Tahoe? Casino nightlife, sierra snow, and the tons of choices of different mountains keeps our crew coming back. Quote
Shadows Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 i wouldnt say whistler is the best ski town. it would suck to try and live/work/and actually ski there. went to beaver creek for the first time the other day. that shit is insansley over yuppied. elevators/escelators to get up to the slopes. free cookies every day. waiters going around to every deck possible at the bases asking if you want something to drink. every single employee that works on mountain or in the village is hired as proffesional ass kissers. the terrain up there is awesome though. I def disagree about Whistler. It's a a great summer resort and just a fun little town. So many other ski towns have much less going for them. Plus its close to Vancouver so its super easy to get into the city. As for the Beav -- LOL -- it has gotten SO much worse in the last five years. Since they opened the Ritz at the base of Bachelor gulch it's just gotten out of control. It's basically the same terrain as 10 years ago but with more lifts and 5x the people. They took gladed runs that only locals knew about and cleaned them up a bit and put them on the map. The country club initiation fee used to be $110,000, that's jus tto join! And yes, as a former employee you are trained to be an ass kisser. No love for Tahoe?Casino nightlife, sierra snow, and the tons of choices of different mountains keeps our crew coming back. I would imagine it has something to do with the fact that Tahoe does have so much more and since other than Heavenly, most of the mtns are a drive from South Lake. Plus a large portion of visitors dont go to ski. I would not count on North Lake as a "top resort town" or even a good vacation destination. Quote

If you have to work all the time to ski one day a week, whats the point. cost of living is too much. it sucks even in summit county - finding a job (this late especially) is tough. Quote
sibhusky Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 I would say most of these "top" resorts in gaper mags are the places that are more "Disney World" than real town. There are few of us left. And I give thanks that we just about never make a top ten list. Quote
