toast21602 Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Just got back from the grand opening of the 6pack for this year at Blue. Surprisingly, after all of that rain, conditions were freakin' great. I got to Blue a little before 9 and i was only like the 4th or 5th car in the lower lot... the place was empty, which was great. After i booted up and got onto the 6pack the sun poked out and made the snow soften up a little more. snow was soft but fast. when you got to the top of the mountain it was like a whole new mountain. windy. cold. covered with snow/ice. rockin' the new PASR sticker on the helmet this year to replace that oldschool sticker it looked like they lost a ton of snow after all of the rain, but they still had a massive amount. tons of snow in the pipe. i cant wait for that thing to open since its one of the few pipes around here in PA anymore. you can see the lower terrain park open in the back which had some great flow. boxes all down the right side and a line of 5 small, but fun, jumps on the left. Blue is doing a pretty good job with the parks this year, but when i went over to come around park, there was nothing done to it and the lips sucked on everything. Sidewinder still has nothing on it, but hopefully soon they will start making snow on there if the temps drop. Some of the park crew guys i was riding with were saying that its going to take a few days of straight snow making about 3 more days to set the park up on there and get it ready. blah. at least they made the wall look ghetto. i dont know if this is a good or bad thing... but when i got there i noticed that the carnival wasn't set up anymore and they took down the funnel cake stand and replaced it with a portable log cabin. i hope they still have fried oreos. i wont be back up to Blue for a few days cuz i work this weekend. hopefully temps will allow them to blow on some more trails and open some new terrain. anyway, sorry for the lack of action shots, as i was there flying solo today. enjoy the report. now go out and enjoy the conditions. mbike-ski Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 nice report! woohoo riding the 6 pack tomorrow!!! Quote
method9455 Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Nice pictures, I'm glad we're getting more media on PASR this year. Now we're in that classic "there is snow on the trails but everything else is mud" stage of early season that we invariable get to after the first thaw. I was thinking the damage would be worse than that. Quote
boardin_nerd Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 niice pictures.. my friend almost didnt' go because she was afraid the conditions would be horrible.. but i'm glad i told her to go anyway. sounds like they were great :-) Quote
nick malozzi Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 nothing better then portable log cabins. Quote
AtomicSkier Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 It's the Blue Mountain Brew Cabin or something stupid like that. I got on the snow around 12:30. Toast had txtd me that conditions were pretty sweet. First lift ride on that 6pack in almost a year. The thing is freaking huge. Last year, the first day Challenge opened was the day I broke my leg, so I was determined not to repeat my fate. Needless to say, I did 12 quick laps down Challenge. The grooming was better then expected, but it was a bit like a rollercoaster with all the rollers haha. There was too much wind, however. Definately was slowing me down a lot. It was just nice having the 6pack...first hour I had 7 runs in....1:54 minutes into my session I already had 14 in. I left after 20 runs and saw GSS in the parking lot. I took some pics as well, and will post them when I get back to my apartment. Tomorrow looks to be cold and rock hard. Time to sharpen the edges Quote
RootDKJ Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 really nice pics. i wish i could have blown work off today. oh well, next week is looking really good for heading up on thursday. Quote
