Montone / Staff Writer Published: Tuesday, December 30, 2008 Updated: Tuesday, December 30, 2008 8:36 AM EST Wind gusts and subfreezing temperatures are expected to blanket Northeast Pennsylvania through New Year's Day. This morning, the National Weather Service at Binghamton issued a hazardous weather outlook for Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wyoming, Pike and southern Wayne counties. The forecast calls for northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, according to the weather service. The conditions are expected to continue throughout mid-morning, when winds are expected to subside to 15 to 25 mph, according to the weather service. The cause is an arctic front sweeping across parts of New York and Pennsylvania, said AccuWeather meteorologist Mike Pigott. Residents can expect a fast-moving clipper storm tonight moving across the New York/ Pennsylvania line, delivering about 3 to 6 inches of snow just north of Scranton, he said. The Electric City can expect 2 to 4 inches, he said. While temperatures are forecast to stay in the 30s, Mr. Pigott said it will feel like it is in the 20s. "Right behind this system, it's dragging a good arctic front through tomorrow morning and temperatures will continue to fall," Mr. Pigott said. "By midnight New Year's Eve, you are looking at temperatures in the teens, probably going with something like 14 degrees and quite windy -- 15 to 25 mph with occasional gusts of 30 mph." JFBB tempted me with snowmaking, but I'll make it up on Friday and next week. Meanwhile, the Sno Moose mascot is riding up the single chair to make 1st trax on my MRG snow cone.
