Erin808
We pulled into the parking lot on Saturday at 9am. The mountain had a good crowd, not crowded but there were lift lines. After this day of riding I am totally an Elk convert. We loved it. The snow was great, there were lift lines -- not long jus a full queue, but there was enough terrain that it didn't feel crowded. I rode pretty much everything that was open. I liked Tunkahanok the best. The moguls at the top were in pretty good shape, there was some ice between them but it was easy enough to spot and hopefully avoid. I felt like the runs were really long and the lifts were pretty quick even though they are fixed grip. I felt like there were challenges to the terrain and I didn't get bored like I do at other PA mountains. It snowed most of the day and I think they got 2-3 inches based on what was on my car when we left. It started snowing harder later in teh day and the drive out sucked. The drive to 81 was trecherous at best. 81 was okay but 84 hadn't been plowed in hours and there weren't even ruts in the road. It made me almost wish we left earlier but not really, we made it back to Tanglwood fine. We are going to plan another trip to Elk but stay near Elk next time. moe ghoul
Elk's worth the trip for a PA hill. There's a few places nearby to stay at. Check out their website for some ideas, or my Elk TR from last week.

snorovr
On Thursday night I stayed at the Dickson City Fairfield Marriot at exit 190 off of 81 and it was only like $57. It included an awesome breakfast with a waffle machine, lots of fruit, oatmeal, juices, etc... They also had a pool and hot tub. Only about 25 minutes up to Elk from there. moe ghoul
Yeah I was looking at that. How did you like where you stayed? Is Chet's the best option? If you can't get a room at Chet's, check out Arlo's and if theyr'e booked then Orazzi's is an OK back up plan for a cheap nite. Chet's is a mile from Elk and has a ski lodge/honky tonk feel to it. Food and booze prices are pretty cheap, room rates are reasonable. We're getting 2 rooms 2 bath for 60/pp per nite. But there's a deal where you can get 2 rooms with a shared bath that's 37.50/pp per nite. That set up was already booked so we decided to blow a few extra dollars to stay there.
