I was watching espn news about brett favre retiring, then across the bottom of the screen, rumor has it that Bode told universal he's probably going to retire at the end of the season. :( Sad to see him go. It seems pretty sudden besides the fact that he probably peaked two years ago....

Interesting... The Olympics are next year and I figured he might want a shot at payback from 2006. Of course, Bode doesn't even care about stuff like that. I know he has an injury this year that is bothering him, and perhaps that is a motivating factor.

Is he still talking about starting up an alternative racing league? Perhaps that is where his interest is these days.

Either way, it will be a loss not to have him on the World Cup Circuit. I'll miss Little Huey shouting from the Start Haus, "Come on Bode, this is your course, come on Bode!"

correct. i'm not denying he is freakin' good, i'm saying he's a joke. this is his 3rd retirement? give me a break.

I guess you can compare him to Michael Jordan, George Forman, etc... then

he's 30 which is old for a ski racer...what do you think Bode will do for a living?

I've heard he wants to be an entrepreneur and start a some new rec racing with ussa???

...... and this would be favres fourth retirement:)

Bode Miller to take rare midseason break

Sounds like a smart move. I really don't know how much his ankle is bothering him.. the media loves to blow stuff like that out of proportion and give injuries way too much credit for lack of performance (if it really bothered him, would he be racing on it?). All I know is he's been having rotten luck. He still has the speed, but just a mistake here or a bad break there is all that's causing him to go from first to 12th or DSQ.

After going out in the slalom, Miller stood along the course for about a half hour and reflected as other racers came down.

You can tell he's really getting frustrated and down on himself.

I hope he doesn't get too down on himself either. He is my favorite ski racer.

Those courses at the Worlds were brutal though. Did you see that Super G course where you couldn't tuck and had to skid many of the turns? I know Bode was pretty critical of Didier Cuche's winning run. I don't know if you caught the slalom on Sunday or not, but half of the competition didn't finish that course. Like you said, he is still fast, he just has those few mistakes that take him out of the course.

I agree that a break can often times recharge one's batteries so I hope he makes the most of it and comes back and finishes a few races. He is still close in the Downhill standings so hopefully he can still nap the globe.

spoken in Little Huey's (the big guy who pumps up the USST racers in the start haus) voice, "Come on Bode, get back in the game, get it Bode!" :yes
