RidgeRacer Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 Just back from my first day at Frost since the PASR day about a month ago. After skiing Boulder a bunch of times it's amazing how Jack Frost feels much bigger. I actually got there around 1pm and spent 5 minutes or so looking for a spot. I got my ticket and headed for Thunderbolt. There was lots of hardpack and ice on the headwalls with sand like snow mixed in on the sides. The weather was about 33 degrees and the place was PACKED which was to be expected. The abstract lift looked to have a 5 minute wait at one point. I headed for the East Mt lift and found the snow was a little better there. They made some snow on River Shot which was left ungroomed and small bumps had formed on River Shot which was fun. After a few runs on East I decided to hit Challenge and sample the trees. They made snow on challenge and there was actually some man made powder in the Challenge trees which is where I decided to hang out for the next few runs before calling it a day. Oh and GSS...Floyd's was icy. I skied it once. Anyway, today was lots of fun on a very crowded afternoon at Jack Frost. Quote
C1erArt Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 (edited) Got on the slopes today at JF at 8, parked first row, did Thunderbolt and had to wait at the bottom until they started loading the lift. Fresh snow on all the trails. Skied Thunderbolt once, fresh snow blown down and groomed nicely. Challenge (once also) was weird, they had new snow also, but groomed the top quarter, then left the second quarter ungroomed, groomed the third quarter and left the bottom headwall ungroomed. Nice skiing all the way down but hard to get a rhythm. And they set up gates for the racekids in the morning. They groomed the first headwall of river shot (one run down), and left the lower two headwalls with ungroomed blown snow. It saw a lot of traffic - a lot of people on it seemed to like it, but not my cup of tea. Floyds (and the headwall just above it) was in unbelievable shape - flat, groomed side to side, new snow. Lapped it until after 11, about 20 runs worth, when it started to get crowded and piles of sugar snow started building up. Up til then I skied onto the chair just about every time. On the way back to the lodge the quad and triple chairs had lines, but only 4 or 5 chairs worth. Was flagged down for skiing too fast on Exhibition - first time that happened at JF, but the slope was pretty crowded. Headed for home and picked up some flowers for the DW. It was a Boston and Richie Blackmore day. Edited February 15, 2009 by C1er Quote
gdthomas Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 I went to boulder today and it was all slow snow with scraped off ice everywhere. All the runways up to features were ice with icy landings. Quote
dw2430 Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 yeha iwas at boudler for about 4 runs. it wasnt good Quote
bigdaddyk Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 (edited) JF was sweet, first thing. Lapped Exhibition numerous times. The snow was really nice, because it got blow over from one park. I also lapped one park, since it had the most new snow. I stayed until 10:30, and had no problems skiing right up to the chair. My son and I were around there most of the morning, then moved on to thunderbolt. Did challenge once but it seemed pretty scraped off and more sugary than t-bolt. If your there today say hi if you see us. My son wears all black and I have light blue jacket and brown pants. Quote

I was there today and lapped between exhibition and challenge, mostly. I didn't read this until now, or I would have looked for you. Quote
Barb Posted February 15, 2009 Report Posted February 15, 2009 I thought conditions today were much better than yesterday. Some interesting characters there. I saw one guy strapping in his snowboard on top of one park, he was wearing jeans, a leather jacket and a striped button down dress shirt. I also rode the lift with a guy who was sucking down straight vodka out of a wine sack, eww. Quote
