zeroc0o0l Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 (edited) Here is the deal, I have a friend that is heading out there for the week of March 7th. He has a place on the mountain (ski out the front door onto mnt, ski in the back door when done) All I have to do is pay for airfare and lift tickets, I can crash on couch and what not. So here is the question Should I go ? I would only be able to stay for 3 maybe 4 days (work schedule)I have never been out West before so I don't know what to expect. Its would probably work out to 500$ air and 400 lift tickets. Is that worth it? Im am by no means a pro I would probably consider myself mild intermediate, would I be in over my head? I ride a Atomic 163 mugshot (Butron step in bindings) would that be OK or get something new ? Get it tuned before I go? How about Helmets and Goggles? Are they a must out West? Sorry for alot of newbie question. Thanks in advance Edited February 19, 2009 by zeroc0o0l Quote
toast21602 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 always go. the answer is always yes. Quote
nick malozzi Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Helmet = Optional Goggles = YES YES YES, It is freaking BRIGHT out here. Board = Use what you're used to, don't go buying new stuff just before a big trip. Tune = Really it is up to you, but might not be a bad idea. I'd spend 30-40 bones on a good tune before breaking down and getting a new board. My recommendation is if you can swing the cost of travel and tickets that by all means DO IT. A ski in ski out condo in Aspen is rather pricey, and you don't get to stay at one free all too often. So get out here, drink lots of water, and take lots of pictures. Quote
CaptDave Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 veni vidi vici You will always wonder if you dont. I did a quick search on flights that week you can definitely get it under 500. Keep well hydrated the week before and while you are out there. Start on the easiest trails and work your way up. Have fun Quote
Johnny Law Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 DO IT ! When your dead are you going to wish you had 1,000 more bucks or wish you had shredded the gnar with the rich and famous at Aspen. Quote

Johnny Style Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Aspen is magical, it will change your life. In fact, you may never come back. Quote
moe ghoul Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 In 10 years you're going to wish you had the memories rather than that thousand dollars. In 10 years, that 1000 will be worth a nickel adjusted for inflation. Memories are priceless. Quote
Justin Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 I just booked a roundtrip flight last night from denver to philly for $300 (I just got in a few hours ago, my flight was today). I had to fly home to take care of some family shit. It's not that expensive. Quote
Glenn Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 Watch aspen extreme. If you don't get it watch it again. Repeat until you get it. Go to aspen. Hook up with cougars. Hook up with locals. Hook up with cougars again to make locals jealous. Ditch cougar for local. WIN THE POWDER 8's. Quote
zeroc0o0l Posted February 26, 2009 Author Report Posted February 26, 2009 Thanks for all the good advice, Im booked for 3/6 to 3/10 going to try at ride all 4 days ( going to at least buy the passes to motivate me) I still don't have a def yes from work that I have off but I'm hoping for the best. Only concern now is 5hr lay over in Denver then I get to aspen 5 on Friday night, my friend doesn't leave Philly till 6 that night. What to do in Aspen (with luggage ) for 5 hrs till friend shows up he had key for condo not sure if I can get this before hand. Also kinda need a plan B if snow comes in and his flight gets canceled Im stuck in Aspen on a Friday night and I'm sure things cheap (maybe Ill be sleeping with those bums) Any suggestion? Dont think Aspen airport is big enough to hang out in for 5 hrs.... any place to stash luggage ? Ill probably end up at a bar Quote
zeroc0o0l Posted March 9, 2009 Author Report Posted March 9, 2009 WOW is about the only word I can think off to describe. Flight out was all good flight into Aspen was SCARY lots of wind luggage didnt get here with me I ended up getting an earlier flight into Aspen. Got lift tickets and walked around Sat Ajax Mnt. Most of the blue stuff on the right side. Not alot of snow out here recently of believe it or not its icy. Ate lunch at Bonnies on the mnt (burgers are delish but $$$$) Few spots with some snow but I just took it easy. Storm rolled in there was soo much FOG you couldnt see anything. Ended the day around 3:30 it was starting to snow pretty hard. Sunday Ajax Mnt rode the left side. Went to Jerrys Garcia shrine in the woods.Few fresh inches ( no more then 3) First few runs were superb. I found a few fresh inches of snow to myself first tracks on it. Took a few runs through the woods that was ALOT of FUN. Had a few runs all to myself while my friend skied bumps. Monday is suppose to be around 40 degrees but I think we are suppose to get snow on Monday night into Tuesday. I hope we are going to hit snowmass tom. Here are some pics. Quote
