DiMe Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 (edited) This was my first time at both resorts. To my suprise Killington was not as crowded as Okemo was Sunday. We spent most of our day at Killington riding from peak to peak via the K1 Express gondola the conditions were decent sugar with some icy spots here and there all and all a good day. Pico ended up being quite the adventure the next day. We arrive at Pico at about 10 and it was pretty dead. We headed up the first quad and headed over to the summit quad and did a little trail riding we noticed the summit had gotten a couple inches of snow that night and the conditions were great. We deicided for the remainder of the day we'd play around in the Summit Glades in search of untracked pow. After a few runs getting a feel of where we can enter the woods and pop out on the lower trails we deicided to jump right into the woods from the top of the summit lift. We ended up following a line through the woods we noticed was marked by blue rectangles painted on the trees, it was all untracked. After awhile the blue makers led us out onto what looked like a freshly groomed trail completely untracked so we started riding down and quickly realized it looked like we were headed for Killington as we seen it getting closer and closer in the distance as we winded down this trail. We seen a few snowmobile tracks and thought maybe we were on a groomed snowmobile trail that lead from Killington to Pico. Halfway down the cord dissapeared and we found ourself in 6 inches of completely untracked powder until we seen a road approaching when we finally reached the bottom. At this pont I was wondering how the hell far off we were and how we were going to get back to Pico where we are parked. Turns out we were about a mile down the road from Killington and we found a shuttle service that woudl take us back to Pico and we just so happen to walk up just in time otherwise it would have been 2 hours for the next one. We told the shuttle bux driver of our adventures and he said we rode down the backside of Pico and knew exactly where we came out on the road, turns out it was a old loggingr road. Epic adventure it was, who would have figured we'd find untracked pow this week after barely any natural snowfall in over a week. Getting off the K1 Express at Killington. Killington Peak view.
