backcountry_rider Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 I've been riding burton mission bindings for the past year and they're the first bindings I've ever had with toecap toe straps. I really like how they keep my heel stuffed back in the binding, but the damn things seem to be popping up and over my boot recently. I don't have really big feet. My boots are 28.0 (10.5 shoe, 10 in most snowboard boots) and I ride a wide deck. Does this happen to anyone else? Should I be ratcheting them down super tight? I always avoided caps because it seemed like the park junkies liked them, so I figured they sucked for speed/carving. I was wrong. Quote
Erin808 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 I have heard that Burton capstraps really only stay put with Burton Boots. Quote
backcountry_rider Posted February 25, 2009 Author Report Posted February 25, 2009 I have heard that Burton capstraps really only stay put with Burton Boots. I wouldn't doubt it...typical Burton bull shit. I miss 90's Burton barring the LSD colors they used to have. Thanks for the info. Quote
TT C6 Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 My cap straps ride up and rotate on top of my boot all of the time. I usually notice it on the way up the ski lift. I strap them down super tight on Burton boots, too. I don't know. Quote
ectobar Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Try adjusting which slot you have the ladder going through. A friend had his in the front slot and they would slide up pretty consistently. Once he moved them to the slot towards the heel, he was good to go. Quote
nick malozzi Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 I bought the toe caps and added them to my customs and they never budge on my 32s. I do tend to crank them down pretty tight though. Have seen/heard of many with this issue though. I think it just depends on the boot and where the cap falls on your toe. Quote
dw2430 Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 i have rome 390s that worked fine. mine didnt tear but then again maybe i dont wear moonboots like you. i foudn that the rome toe straps are saty more secure than the burton model because of the flexibility. Quote
crazex Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 I had the original Burton cap straps on my old P1's, and they were horrible. No matter how I adjusted them, or tightened them, they would always slip up. Prior to this year I was riding Burton SL-6 boots, so the theory of the straps not slipping on Burton boots isn't true. This year I switched to Ride bindings with Salomon F24's, and their "convertible" strap is far superior. Since the strap is a grippy rubber, it never moves, after you've strapped in. Quote
Tyler Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 my 390 toe straps work fine. havent had a problem with rome bindings and between 2 pairs i have had over 200 days on them, no tears or anything. Quote
Schif Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 I've got a "convertible" strap too, on a pair of K2s. Has never been an issue of slippage. Quote
AngryHugo Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 I have a set of the old Missions, too, and yeah, the toecap did the same thing. I just replaced it this season with one of the new toecap straps (the kind with the cutout in the middle), and it stays put a whole lot better. The whole inside is rubberized, and the cutout seems to surround the toe a whole lot better. Quote
burton71 Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 I have heard that Burton capstraps really only stay put with Burton Boots. You heard wrong. I riden caps with 32s, DCs, Northwave, etc... You just need to adjust them correctly for yout boots. Quote
backcountry_rider Posted March 2, 2009 Author Report Posted March 2, 2009 Fixed. Thanks for all the replies, everyone. I changed the ladder to the other slot and cranked them down tight. The only time they ever slid up on me was while I was waiting for the rest of the group, kneeling. Now I'm sold on the capstraps--don't think I'll ever go back. Keeping my heels tight in the back of the binding really allows for some deep carves. Quote
