RootDKJ Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Date(s) Skied: 3/29/2009 Resort or Ski Area: Windham Conditions: Variable, temps in the mid 50's, rain on and off. Trip Report: Woke up this morning to some pretty heavy rain here in NJ, but since I had to use the voucher or waste it, I decided to drive up anyway. Raining until just before I got to Kingston, then it turned into a mist. I was getting optimistic. Pulled into the parking lot around 9AM and noticed a lot of green. Maybe a total of 15 cars in the lot, and the guy who pulled in next to me was an employee. Got booted up and cashed in my voucher at group sales. I saw that A, C and D lifts were spinning. As I approached A lift, I saw the closed sign hanging up. Bummer. I went to D lift, asked the lifties for the scoop, and they told me delayed opening as some snow is pushed around up top. Finally at 9:45 the lifts opened up. I got 2nd car up. Not much to say on the conditions. Nothing was groomed and I saw no evidence of any snow moving activity. Snow was pretty hard, all things considered. The most challenging part was not the trail, but navigating a way down. It rained on and off several times, and the sun came out for a little bit also, which was really nice. I didn't even use my goggles today, it felt best just to go au natural. Anyway, I skied 8 runs for a total of 10,300 feet of vertical. I was really glad I got out today. Besides from the conditions, it was great to be outside in the mountains today. The fresh air was fantastic, had a nice sweet earthy smell. I actually turned off my ipod, to take in the sounds of spring, birds chirping and babbling streams were quite soothing. I should have brought some blueberries with with me. There was a great vibe on the mountain today, everyone on the lifts would be cheering on the few people actually crazy enough to ski today. Stopped off at the Bavarian Manor in Purling for a Paulander lager and some homemade potatoes pancakes. Here's some photo's of the day. yes, this trail is open, and I skied it Whistler headwall Top of A lift Various parts of Wraparound Watch out! The landing on the jump is kinda rough Whistler Looks like they've already cleaned up! Bra Tree http://s454.photobucket.com/albums/qq264/R...nt=IMG_0088.jpg G-Lift (wasn't running) What's Next? I love this house (on Rt 23) The most well endowed Gnome you'll ever drink with Quote
phillycore Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Wow... Camelback has more snow than that....and probably so does Blue, JF and they're closed.... DOH Quote
Johnny Style Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 nice TR but kinda depressing... +1 Quote
RootDKJ Posted March 30, 2009 Author Report Posted March 30, 2009 Windham never had the snowmaking that others have..interesting that 8 runs equals 10,300 vert..because Windham always claimed 1550 vert for the High Speed quad out of the base and on my old Avocet watch I always got 1280..anyway you're hardcore..I wouldn't have driven that to Windham yesterday, I'm pretty sure Windham's East Peak to the bottom is around 1600. While you can ski that, the East Peak lift (G-lift) doesn't go to the bottom, so it's really tough to lap the full vert. You would have to take C-lift up and then traverse over to G-lift. Quote
NazarethSkier Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Hats off to root for that solid T/R... Depressing to see all that dirty snow Quote
RootDKJ Posted March 30, 2009 Author Report Posted March 30, 2009 Windham claims 1550 feet of vert for the A-lift..false advertising.. http://www.windhammountain.com/upload/phot...07_trailmap.pdf Yeah, I don't know about that. I'd give it around 1300 feet off A-Lift Quote
NazarethSkier Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Yeah, I don't know about that. I'd give it around 1300 feet off A-Lift Yeah, but who is counting right? Quote
DiMe Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Wow thats some super thin conditions. I assume that was their last day? Any idea how Hunter and Bellayre are looking in comparison? Quote
RootDKJ Posted March 31, 2009 Author Report Posted March 31, 2009 Wow thats some super thin conditions. I assume that was their last day? Any idea how Hunter and Bellayre are looking in comparison? They closed down Monday-Thursday. Open Friday 4/3 until...? Hunter & Bellayre should have more snow, as they made snow well past when Windham stopped. After last night's rain, who knows. Quote
