RidgeRacer Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 All of this White lighting talk made me want to see for myself. I must say I severely underestimated WL. I wasn't expecting that type pitch. My first run was Cannonball and when I looked up from the quad I was surprised at the steepness of the thing. The left side of WL was icy and impossible to edge ( I learned this the hard way) but I figured lightning out by my third run on it and skied it successfully every time for the rest of the night. (stay where the powder stashes and bumps are). The top part of the mountian didnt really interest me. Boomer is a nice run too. Lots of ice and hard pack. The snow wasn't the best especially on the steeps. Beginners (if there are any here) read the signs and do not try White Lightning if you aren't an advanced to expert skier / boarder! Quote
Ski Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 And people only think bowling and flat beer when they hear the word Scranton...glad to hear you had a good time. Quote
AtomicSkier Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 it does catch you by surprise, and from the lift, it looks hella steep... Quote
RidgeRacer Posted March 14, 2005 Author Report Posted March 14, 2005 it does catch you by surprise, and from the lift, it looks hella steep... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is hella steep!! Reminded me of world cup at Stratton. But WL is probably longer and harder because of the ice Quote
zaldon Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 well i didnt have to any problem with ice on WL like most trails i just went striaght down. Quote
Schif Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 well i didnt have to any problem with ice on WL like most trails i just went striaght down. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But you were there during the tiny window when it was flat. Quote
zaldon Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 i still would have gone striaght down if it wasnt flat its just my stlye Quote
Treeless Forest Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 straight down works if you dont end up eating it at the bottom Quote
RidgeRacer Posted March 16, 2005 Author Report Posted March 16, 2005 Is it even possible to go straight down? Quote
Glenn Posted March 16, 2005 Report Posted March 16, 2005 Is it even possible to go straight down? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Haven't seen it with the bumps, but I would imagine so. If you rode with Will you would know, hes pretty much mastered the straight bomb. Quote
skidude Posted March 16, 2005 Report Posted March 16, 2005 Haven't seen it with the bumps, but I would imagine so. If you rode with Will you would know, hes pretty much mastered the straight bomb. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I had that mastered a while ago...But tried to get away from it, due to the fact coaches like to see you turn (whats that)...Anyway some nights I end up bombing trails to clear my head Quote
Sno Mountain Skier Posted March 16, 2005 Report Posted March 16, 2005 i dont no how easy it would be to straight at the biggest moguls. Quote
skidude Posted March 16, 2005 Report Posted March 16, 2005 I tried bombing asp when it was a bump run the night before finals....That uhh didn't end up so well (we need a good crash icon Jeff) Quote
pyro_boarder Posted March 16, 2005 Report Posted March 16, 2005 I don't see much problem bombing it (except for the bumps), however stopping could cause a serious problem. But is ok there's a a net to catch you before you end up in the lake. Quote
zaldon Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 are their trees at the bottom before the net? Quote
Schif Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Lightning was groomed for some reason today. It was awesome with all this soft snow, I carried my speed into it for some ungodly reason and i'm pretty sure i broke the sound barrier. (as well as almost breaking the barrier around the lift cuz it kinda came up on me quick). The liftie never saw anyone fly through the lift line like that before and up cannonball a little bit. Quote
Ski Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 Ha, it was great today. The chunky balls on the left side were looked lethal, but were soft. It should be like that every day. Quote
librider Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 i remeber one time when i was at montage there was a jump right off the headwall of it. talk about a steep landing Quote
