sibhusky Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I think you need to tell us where you're getting transplanted TO...Philly, NYC, Boston, Pittsburgh? Quote
that_guy Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 Sorry- probably Jersey, suburban NYC area. Quote
Dan- Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Your best options are in VT, or NH. Tuckermans is nice, you just have to hike. That will probably be one of the best comparisons. Other then that, there is Stowe and Jay, which I'd say are the best in the east as far as terrain and snow. Then there is always the Chic Chocs up in New Foundland, but it's easier to get out west then it is to get there. Quote
Rowsdower Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Tuckerman's Ravine on Mt Washington will make you feel at home. Lift serviced terrain rivaling mountains out west can be had at Whiteface, Stowe, and Jay Peak. Of course everything's going to be a little smaller and has a tighter feel than western terrain. Quote

First Grade Teacher Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Sugarloaf is the closest thing to western mountains but I use the word "close" loosely. Best in the East for sure wthout hiking. Quote
GS_RACE Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 I don't think anyone has said Whiteface yet. It might not have the size of some of Stowe, Jay's etc, but it definitely has a good amount of difficulty, a big mountain experience, and the feeling of a ski town like you might get in Steamboat, J. Hole, etc Quote
Rowsdower Posted October 18, 2009 Report Posted October 18, 2009 I totally mentioned Whiteface. Its fun when its not windy. Quote
setagehtta Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 Nobody mentioned Jack Frost/Big Boulder?! Now talk about vertical baabaaay Quote
