Glenn Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 I live in Fraser now, so if you end up at the Rocky Mountain Inn I can maybe making a bar appearance depending if I have work that night. Quote
Shadows Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 stayin in georgetown might screw you if we get dumped on and everything closes; plus theres nothing to do like glenn said. youll be stuck at loveland pretty much. theres some hotels in frisco for 45 a night. the arapahoe inn up here sometimes does like 30 (or something stupid cheap) dollar rooms when theyre real slow or need to fill shit so call them up and see. i get half off hotels up here though if you want to pursue that... Edit: OH and I heard on NPR that a lot of the resorts lost a ton of international staff due to the changes to the work visa programs. Maybe you all should strike for better benefits since there won't be tons of South Americans able to be scabs. they lost their visa half way through the year last year i believe. and they lost 37% revenue last year too so this year is seein sooo many cut backs and what not. theyre hiring more citizens this year cause they cant afford to bring as many as last year. they usually range anywhere from $50-$80 depending on the date you want to use them... theyre 55 no matter what time you use them. each season pass gets 10 55$ tickets. holidays might be the 80 but i never cared to ask cause no one comes up on holidays. closing week we can get 19 dollar tickets i think. 25 maybe. something ridic. In my experience last year this statement was not true. I rode buddy passes 3 times on non holidays and they were not all the same $55 price. Maybe things changed this year though. they lost their visa half way through the year last year i believe. and they lost 37% revenue last year too so this year is seein sooo many cut backs and what not. theyre hiring more citizens this year cause they cant afford to bring as many as last year. While it is certainly true that the ski industry lost a lot of revenue last year, from what I heard the government is requiring employers to pay for travel expenses incurred by certain types of work visas. Specifically, the work visa type most international ski resort workers apply for. So revenue loss or not, I guarantee 99% of the resorts are not willing to pay the travel bills of all the South American workers. It would bankrupt them. Quote

They changed alot about the H1B process so now not only do you have to pay more but they are alot harder to get. Intel needs 10,000 Indians to make better chips, ski industry needs a bunch of South Americans to bump chairs who do you think ends up with the H1's. The ski resort industry as a whole is in a pretty big bind right now, the real $$$ was from housing not from riding. Right now its pretty difficult to find a thousand people who want Mc Mansions at Ascutney therefore lots of places are trying to figure out how you do business in this enviroment. Additionally the big banks who kept the resort conglomerates properly liquid don't feel like lending money to them....tough times ahead for the destination resorts and some of the smaller players. I agree man, the money is in the vacation home business. I was a part of it when I first moved out here. Designed websites for a major player in the vacation home game. I was let go when the economy tanked, and now my old company was bought out by another that has been scooping everything up. Quote

Shadows Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 i got 10 last year? whatever though. no one comes out here anyway. Quote
phillycore Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 I've stayed at the Rocky Mountain Inn and Hostel when I visited WP last season to ride with Glenn.. The place is alright... it's cheap, and there's lots of interesting people there. It's definitely a different experiance....lol Quote
Justin Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 The drive from denver isn't THAT bad...I do it almost every weekend. Plus staying in denver has it's perks, way cheaper places to party....but if you're gonna be here for a few days, I'd want to be as close to the mountain as possible. One of my buddies works at the Comfort Suites in Silverthorne, I might be able to hook you up with a deal on a room. He's gotten me free or next to free rooms a few times last season, his boss does not give a shit. I'll see what I can do. Quote
Dan- Posted November 5, 2009 Author Report Posted November 5, 2009 I have a place to stay in Central city i think it was. Google maps says 35 minutes to loveland, but still have to be on i70 so we'll see. Quote
DHarrisburg Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 15% off any roundtrip flight I'm going to fly roundtrip to denver for the tradeshow for ~$80 Quote
Glenn Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 I have a place to stay in Central city i think it was. Google maps says 35 minutes to loveland, but still have to be on i70 so we'll see. I suggest canceling this. Central city is in bumble fuck. It is a casino town. You can get shitty drinks and shitty food in the middle of the night and pull on a handle (not your own) and that's about it. Stay in Georgetown over this place. I had a friend who stayed there and it was a huge pain in the ass, and he still got stuck in I-70 traffic everyday. At night maybe a 40 min drive to WP, during ski traffic, more like 2 hours. Quote
Dan- Posted November 6, 2009 Author Report Posted November 6, 2009 15% off any roundtrip flight I'm going to fly roundtrip to denver for the tradeshow for ~$80 Why couldn't this deal extend into March so i could book another flight. Quote
Sno Mountain Skier Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 15% off any roundtrip flight I'm going to fly roundtrip to denver for the tradeshow for ~$80 Thanks a lot. Been looking for cheap roundtrip tickets to Fort Lauderdale for a couple weeks. Quote
Glenn Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 Also to get to central city you have to drive the central city parkway, which is a nice way of calling it a pass. It's not super gnarly, but it has gates and they can close it. Quote
