rastasquid Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 So last year I took a trip to Killington with some friends and it was fantastic. We are looking do do another trip this year for a couple of days, but we aren't sure where. None of us have ever been anywhere except Killington up there. Last year we got in on a college trip for $300 for 3 days of lift tickets and a condo and bus ride but this year we have to plan it on our own, so we are trying to get away as cheap as possible. Most of us snowboard, but don't care much about park if that matters in your suggestions. Thanks in advance guys! Quote
phillycore Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 If you had fun at Killington than Stowe would probably be the obvious answer... I guess it all depends on what you are looking for though... Trees, Steeps, Moguls, Long Groomers,Fast lifts, Party or Family atmosphere, etc... Quote

To fill in some more info, we are looking primarily for steeps, long groomers and some trees. Atmosphere isn't super important, if there is a party atmosphere we'll go out and party, if not, we'll bring the party Quote
rastasquid Posted November 12, 2009 Author Report Posted November 12, 2009 If Stowe or someplace that price was really worth it, we would do a shorter trip for maybe two or three days, instead of 4 like we were thinking. It would suck to plan a 4 day trip somewhere and be bored with the mtn in 2 days.. Quote
Dan- Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 If you want to make the haul up to Jay there tickets are pretty reasonable and I'm sure you can find a cheap place to stay since it's basically in the middle of no where. Terrain and snow isn't half bad either. Quote
librider Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Stowe was my favorite non park place in VT. Great steeps and what not. Quote
Melissa Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Check out this hostel - http://www.hosteltevere.com/ Really cool!!! Decent prices, too! Quote
Sno Mountain Skier Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 I really enjoyed stowe, sugarbush, and smuggs. Out of the three Id pick sugarbush for cheapness, stowe terrain, and smuggs to be in the middle. Quote

There's plenty of what you're looking for there and you can do it on the cheap too. If you're coming form PA, you can get there in about the same time as Killington. Quote
trackbiker Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Don't be afraid to check out the ski and stay packages on the ski area websites. They're often the best deals when you factor in lift tickets. Especially mid-week. Many even include breakfast or if you get a condo you can make your own meals. Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 (edited) I don't know what dates your looking for, and I know it's in Maine, but Sunday River has a pretty sweet college deal for 5 days 5 nights in the mid 300 range... I did it several years ago and it was a blast... Great terrain, good vibe, a decent park, and excellent accomodations... Edited November 13, 2009 by Ride Delaware ? Quote

That would make planning alot easier, to just use that as a general assumption. Quote
phillycore Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Most people I see online disagree.....but I thought Stratton was pretty cool. Of course when I was there they got hit with over 20+ so that could've helped a little....lol You'd get bored there though pretty quickly on anything over 2-3 days for sure.. Quote
mbike-ski Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 over 20" makes anywhere great! but stratton and okemo would be at the bottom of my list, i like mt snow over both. i'd do either stowe, jay, wf or sugarbush. Quote
mbike-ski Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 somebody set up a poll and let the masses decide where rastasquid rides! Quote
OutCold Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Go to Gore...it sounds like it would fit your needs perfectly. Their lift tickets are good for Whiteface too so if you get bored with it you can drive to Whiteface for a day. Quote
OutCold Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Gore is not in Vermont and flat.. Neither is Whiteface.....they've done a lot of regrading over the last few years to get rid of flat spots. They've also expanded a ton too. I'll definitely be going back to Gore before I go back to Killington. Quote

Stratton has some awesome trees. I'd skip Mt Snow and Okemo on a pow day Quote

Freeski919 Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 What would you consider a reasonable drive to/from the mountain in the morning? If you're willing to have a 20-25 minute drive to the mountain, I'd suggest staying in Waterbury. It's right off 89, and there are some decent places to stay around there. From there, you can reach Stowe/Smuggs in about 20 mins, and Sugarbush/MRG in about 25. Gives you tons of variety if you can put it together in your price range. Quote
