jdrob2ski Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Because the snow is perfect and the crowds are light, I took a few cell phone pics for the fun of it. Here it goes... On the main lift going up Upper Seneca The Snow Bowl (Bottom of north side trails) Upper Tunkhannock... The bumps are kinda small but starting to form Susquehanna and the East Slope Middle of the Chippewa looking up Looking down Tecumseh Tuscarora headwall Mid Delaware and the Delaware terrain park Looking down Mahican Skis for the day I took a few more pics, but apparently my phone didnt like them. Oh well. Almost the entire mountain is open, except for a few trails, and they look to be open by the weekend. Time to get it while its good. Awesome day. Quote
Schif Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Whoo! Elk was awesome today. Snow was soft and falling for most of the day. Tunkhannock was phenomenal, soft ungroomed snow with some nice bumps. Pretty cold, and I had to be a 4 layer player and use my facemask for the first time, but overall it wasn't a really big deal. Flat light all day was kind of lame but some primo conditions and hardly anyone there definitely made it a phenomenal day. I think I saw Moe a few times, he was a chair ahead of me and I saw him on the trail from the lift but I never got a chance to say hi. Quote
rummy Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 Just back too. Best conditions so far this year. That's why I'm an ELK-aholic! Asked some very reliable sources about expected crowds, etc on WVIA day this Thurs. and winterfest on Fri. They said both days are usually very busy. Thurs you see all kinds of old equiptment and goobers, and Fri., the first winterfest day, the crowds can be heavy but the caliber of skier is much better. So look for atypical weekday crowds. Quote
