Timeless Posted January 19, 2010 Report Share Posted January 19, 2010 Storms are raging over here, I had to take a painful decision to bail out of the tahoe region yesterday (too much risk with the kids around), it was almost whiteout conditions and getting worse as we came out through echo pass. Back home in Morgan Hill the weather has just got worse and worse, which just means more snow (and wind)for the mountains. This weeks storms look to be just what they need, hopefully they'll drop the predicted 4-6ft as base level (much more higher up) and then clear out for next weekend. EVEN more snow coming No way there can be that big a difference between Squaw and Alpine, they are practically on top of each other. It's all good though, when you are comparing the difference between 3 feet and 5 feet for the week. Looks like the SW side of things is getting the brunt of the storms so far since the storms are stalling coming from the west. Flying southwest out of philly to vegas and then to reno on same plane so no worries about luggage not making the transfer as it will be on the same plane the whole time. No worries about snow delays into either airport obviously. We rented an expedition with a ski rack and will pick up tire chains if needed... We're good to go!! phillycore Posted January 24, 2010 Author Report Share Posted January 24, 2010 We arrived yesterday at Reno/Tahoe, all bags arrived intact! Picked up the rental vehicle a brand new (600 miles on it) white suburban with ski racks, and headed out towards Tahoe After a quick stop at the Carson city 7-11 for some drinks, we got to our lodging for the week at the Tahoe Seasons Resort. Got our side by side jacuzzi'd and fireplaced up rooms then headed out to the safeway for groceries (breakfast stuff, bananas, granola bars, things of that nature..) Drove back to the resort and dropped the groceries off and headed out to the Ihop for dinner. After that we basically just unpacked and checked out the on site ski shop, etc. Getting ready to head out to Kirkwood for the day....I'll try to log back in tonight with some pics.. peace out... time to score some powduh.. We needed a break so timing of it wasn't too bad, just wished we were already on break rather than at base of trail. Lifts were only down for just under an hour so not too bad. Our lift tickets are good for a full day at half day price, but we aren't going back to the wood this trip so I figured I'll just mail it to Timeless when I get back as he could probably use it at some point. I did look at some of the vids, but they make me sea sick and need a lot of editing to cut out downtime (traversing, equipment adjustments, etc.) Josh had a nasty yardsale yesterday...ski popped off and smacked him in the face...blood on the sloped people!! He's good though, just gashed his nose really and woke him up pretty good. off to homewood... it's dumping again with big time winds... 30 mph gusts, 75mph gusts at ridgelines above 7k feet. Homewood is only like 7880 so good day to head there with the lowest elevation of the places were going. The lift lines weren't that bad the rest of the day. Where did you guys ride/ski? It's a bit of a strange mountain to navigate. Probably a good choice to stay away from the resorts with 9-10k ridgelines, more storms today and tomorrow.
