tarponhead Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Blue has not blown snow in ~ 6days. The auger bit was hitting dirt last night when setting up gates on racers. Warm weather predicted to stay around into early next week. If we don't get a good cold pattern again soon me thinks some trails will be closing soon.... 1 Quote
RootDKJ Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Shit. Looks like it's gonna get worse before it gets better. http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/Blue-Mountain-Ski-Area/6day/top Quote
tarponhead Posted January 20, 2010 Author Report Posted January 20, 2010 I would rather have this weather than the bitterly cold weather of a few weeks ago. It got below freezing this morning and looks to go to about 40 degrees this afternoon. It's not like it's 65 degrees and all the snow is melting. All the runs are open...6 days with no snowmaking is nothing...be happy with what we have. Again I'd rather have this weather than the bitterly cold of a few weeks ago...I prefer spring snow over blue ice. A couple skeet spots don't mean runs being closed...they can do creative grooming. Talk to me Tuesday next week.... Quote
tarponhead Posted January 20, 2010 Author Report Posted January 20, 2010 It's a gaper thing to think that one rainstorm and a few mild days will wipe out a months worth of snowmaking. A January thaw around this time is a normal thing. Instead of complaining, enjoy the pleasent ski conditions. Oh I'm out there getting plenty. Whatever. Stll rather have it 20 then 45F 1 Quote
AtomicSkier Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 LOL closing trails. This thread is funny. The auger hitting dirt means there is at least 18" of solid ice as a base. Oh I'm out there getting plenty. Whatever. Stll rather have it 20 then 45F what is wrong with you? I'd rather have it be warm and sunny. Quote

AngryHugo Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 it seemed like it was raining like once a week last year. warm + nothing > warm + rain 1 Quote
RootDKJ Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I'd rather have ~30F and sunny. Rain is just depressing in the winter. Quote
tarponhead Posted January 20, 2010 Author Report Posted January 20, 2010 The snow surface is nice when it rains. Agreed, it saved opening day at Blue this year. The day after I'm not so thrilled about. OK, I'll up my meds and stop worrying now. Thank you all for the edjumakation Quote
sexkitten Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I like it better when it's bitter cold too. Not quite sure why now that I think about it... I just do. Quote
NJSkier Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Forecasters are calling for colder/snowier weather to move in by first week of Feb. Pattern looks to be nearly identical to what we had in mid-Dec through early Jan. Check out Herb Stevens' forecast: http://www.snocountry.com/index.php/component/content/article/41/3243.html Granted that skiing in 40F temps are nice, but we really do need a cold blast with snow, or at least snowmaking temps, to keep things from totally crashing out. Just my two-cents. Quote
RootDKJ Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 The only thing saving this thread is all the New Jersey people.. Any of you garden Staters want to be in my Jersey Shore style video blog at Blue?? Action failed: You have reached your quota of negative votes for the day Quote
RootDKJ Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 You have to admit..it smells like cheese and dookie in Jersey... Tru dat...PA smells like cow shit though. For years I've been trying to figure out which is worse. 1 Quote
DiMe Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 (edited) I dunno I think thick spring conditions are much different on a snowboard than a ski I'd imagine skis cut through it much easier because of the narrowness and the way skies are ridden. I enjoy all weather conditions for what they are but heavy wet spring snow can be so choppy on a board it's ridiculous. The crazy chatter with every carve just wears you out faster. I've never skied in my life though so I have no idea what skiing in spring snow is like. Spring snow = Stay in the trees or stay in the park and work on harder tricks because falling on spring snow is so forgiving. I'd definitely prefer winter weather nice carve able hard pack any day over spring snow but as long as the resorts are open and there's snow to shred I'm happy. RootDKJ Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Out near reading there is a mushroom plant and it stinks pretty bad. With the medical marijuana laws passed in NJ hopefully the dirty jerz will smell like Snoop Doggs tour bus. One can only hope. Quote
DiMe Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 (edited) I think we need RD2D in this thread for his opinions. Today was perfect at CBK and I'm guessing the same at Blue. It was a little cooler so all that heavy wet spring snow turned into tons of SUGAR now that it dried out . It is still a little choppy but much lighter and way easier to rip through, perfect spring like snow IMO. Edited January 20, 2010 by DiMeThIcOnE Quote
mbike-ski Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 hmmmm, its all good - like pizza and sex (and i mean with a partner jeff ) but last year there was no freeze/thaw until like febraury or so - i'll take that snow/weather at blue over this years any day 1 Quote
tarponhead Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 yeah this weather sucks!!! Let it go. I was jus bummin from the rain and relatively warm daytime temps. Couple days ago the long range looked meh too. Thanks for the update though. Hopefully I can make it up for a few hours Saturday AM too. Quote
AtomicSkier Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I have a feeling tomorrow afternoon is going to be legit...nice and warm. JohnnyStyle...will we see you at all this weekend? Quote
tarponhead Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 The weather is gonna suck...by Tuesday trails will be closed. well then, better get the runs in why you can Quote
tarponhead Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 Exactly....this weekend could be it....shit there's already Easter candy. ghetto candi don't count Quote
DiMe Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 The weather is gonna suck...by Tuesday trails will be closed. Yes this is why we don't want Spring in January UGGGHHH Quote

DiMe Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 (edited) Yeah but with 40 degree weather foretasted until Tuesday and almost 2 inches of heavy rain this weekend may make it a reality for a short time until they make more snow. Not really a big deal this weather just gets me nervous thinking about another season ending even though that's still a long way off. It may be a good thing though, the resorts are going to hit it with snowmaking hard once temps come back & then again prepping for presidents week. Edited January 21, 2010 by DiMeThIcOnE Quote
tarponhead Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 (edited) I don't even see this weather as bad..Blue blew snow early this morning...a rainstorm isn't gonna kill things..TarpoonHead is a goober.. I just might be Doogie. This is my first season back so not to savy on some things. But at least I'm not a a-hole. over & out Edited January 21, 2010 by tarponhead Quote
