phillycore
http://www.dcski.com/lostareas/viewlostprofile.php?id=30 According to that, don't think it's going to be poachable without possibility of some legal trouble. Unless the owner isn't around, didn't care, or got permission to ski it (he might be cool with it knowing the history of the place) The new owner is running his investment firm out of the old barn which he renovated. Johnny Style
Ahhhhh good times. Thanks for the memories. Back in the 1980s when we used to get snow storms like this all winter long, Chadds Peak would be rockin' after school. We combined the West Chester East and Henderson High Schools to form the West Chester ski team. We would compete against all the other schools in the area on the brand new "break away" gate slalom courses. 1984-88. The top two junior racers in PA skied in this league so it was legit competition. Both of those guys skied out of the Jack Frost race program. Another of the top guys kicks it in Vail now. Up until last year my most days spent skiing were back when I used to race on the bump. Good times. So Core, did you ever ski Chadds Peak? Oh yeah, if you haven't already found it, check out my Facebook photo album on Chadds Peak and click through it from the start to read the captions.
phillycore
Never got the chance too....they closed just around the same time I started skiing. Spent my early years at spring mountain.
AtomicSkier
JStyle has is albums set to private so I'll take the time to make the story publicly available....Thanks to Johhny Style for his time in preparing this wonderful TR...The parking lot is now somebody's back yard and home to a flock of geese. One would pay for their lift tickets here. It's now all boarded up. I was told that this place closed after I graduated high school and that we were the last "graduating class" to ski here. You would then walk down a path to gain entrance to the rental office and the lodgeComparison shot. Looking around from the lodge up at the main hill.Comparison shot of the beginner's hill. One would come down a hill from the lodge and cross this bridge to gain access to the slope. The bridge is all busted up now.Looking up and back to the lodge.A rope tow station that has seen better days.A "J" bar from the Poma surface lifts that used to take us to the top, all 150 vertical feet. When I ride the Poma lifts at Snowmass, Lake Louise, etc. I flash back to my days riding these lifts at Chadds PeakA long forgotten ski pole. Memories of a simpler time gone past. This thing was archaic even when I rode here. I only saw this operate once.Looking back down the track of the Poma lift. Still visible.Part of a long forgotten lift. The cable would run along this when it was standingComparison shot from the top of the slope looking back at the lodgeI came back down the hill (which is totally overgrown) and spied the old Patrol shack. I approached cautiously as I heard some noise in the thickets.Looking inside the old Patrol shack I could tell somebody was living here. There was a stack of empty PBR beer cans on the floor and some retro gear from the 1980s scattered about. I heard that rustling noise again and decided to get out of there...As I took off from the Patrol shack I looked back to discover what had been making all that noise. I heard a loud, "who dares to poach my private glade skiing stash?!" He yelled out that his name was Johnny Style and that this place was for locals only; something about this being his off-season training facility...I left that Style dude back at the Patrol shack with his righteous 1980s era skis and managed to snatch a picture of the lodge one last time on my way out.I think I've seen this Johnny Style before at Blue... JFskiDan
way too funny..i skied there, looooong time ago. and i bumped into that website in like october. pretty cool stuff. everyone used to call it chadds bump. i spent some time on google earth trying to put together where everything was, but really couldnt pinpoint where the slopes where, for obvious reasons. the pictures kind of explain why. if my memory serves me right, wasnt the parking lot across the street? awesome pics. mbike-ski
thats freaking great! Johnny Style as the ghost of Chadds Bump I learned on a similar hill, Ski Mountain in Pine Hill NJ in the mid 70's. It was pretty cool you could see the philly skyline from the "summit". it's now a golf course and condos, maybe one day i'll have to go shoot a round there... Johnny Style
Dachstein V4s circa 1984-85. Needless to say, Dachstein is not in business anymore. He's like Roller Girl from the movie Boogie Nights/or Tootie from the Facts of Life season 1, the boots never come off, even in the offseason.
