Farmers have relied on almanacs for decades to help them plant their crops. The Moyer Almanac is written for the Berks County area and 69 News sat down with its author to see if you can put those snow blowers away. The one-two punch of snow storms this past week dumped a lot of inches on the ground. But that's nothing, said Lester Moyer, compared to 1958. "I was skinny and tall when I was a kid," said Moyer. "Well, coming down from the field I was waste deep in the snow. Moyer said he has 65 years experience predicting the weather. He keeps tracks of it in his journal. This is what he wrote Wednesday: "Finally, the relentless blowing snow has ended. An awesome sight." For those of you who were hoping we were done with lots of snow in 2010, Lester Moyer said no in his almanac. He wrote on March 7, when the moon changes at 10:42 a.m., moon show high wind and drifting snow. "If I had to give it an indication," said Moyer. "I would say we're looking at 40 inches or maybe plus. That's the worse scenario.". But Moyer said he is only accurate 85% to 90% of the time. And one of those off times was when he spoke to the Reading Eagle about 2010. He predicted total seasonal snowfall of about 18 to 20 inches. "I should have designated that as nuisance snows," said Moyer. Nuisance snows are less than eight inches. He's predicting the March 7th storm to be more than that. "That's not the worse yet," said Moyer. "Go to April." He said April 21, another storm could come, possibly a wintry mix. He said in 1999 he predicted a similarly late in the season storm. "Nothing on TV," said Moyer. "Nobody buying milk, eggs, bread shovel or salt. We had seven and half inches of snow. Nobody mentioned it. I hit that baby right on the money." We'll see if he does it again. http://www.wfmz.com/...439/detail.html so what do you guys think about this? Quote

Schif Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 I checked with the Magic Eight ball--only time will tell. I checked with the Magic Hat: "Life in a Hurry makes everything Blurry" of course to be scientific you can't just have one trial, so again I enlisted the help of the forseeing elixer: "Don't Strain your Brain In times of Pain" Well once you gave it a go of 2 times you might as well try the lucky number 3: "Suck the toe of Edgar Allen Poe" was the final response. 1 Quote
