AtomicSkier Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 Anyone back on topic. Ski racing is not dying out. I think Rob proved that wrong at the PASR day last year at Bear Creek. I think EVERYONE enjoyed it more then they thought they would before they started. I know Greg did. I was inspiried by Ski999 to do NASTAR at Montage, and then I was hooked. I even had enough guts to race an ASRA w/ him, and he's right, watching Bartek ski is sooo amazing. On a course that was so flat, he was laying arcs over that I thought were impossible to, because of the speed needed on the flat course, but he was doing it. I wish I could do that. But anyway, racing is fun, everyone should try NASTAR some time, I know you'll get hooked. BTW, there is hope for everyone. I taught myself the form that I have now, pretty much in one season... Can't wait to improve more next year Quote
skidude Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 You should try to take a lesson somewhere, from a coach...So they could point out all the good/bad things Quote

JohnnyP Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 That Bartek, I gotta keep an eye out over my shoulder for that one, he's young and has his sights set on me, but the old veterans arent easy to catch. Heh. Anyway, since we are back on topic and talking about race coaching I am going to take this post to make a shameless plug for the weekly adult training that I run at MC. Starting on the first Monday night after New Years, we meet prior to 7pm at Racing ( or you go there to see where the training is): we drill and run gates till a few minutes before closing. The discipline that we train is dependent on the Weds night adult race. Basically, we train either SL or GS and I coach, along with another MC coach if there are more than enough people. Right now, the price per person per night is $15...cash, lol, but that is going to be reviewed. It's not a program that you have to commit to and you can show up if you find that you can make it. Alot of times I will have one of our racers show up for a demonstrator and one of the stipulations of the training is that I get to run the gates along with you all. Even people who ski on Atomic skis are welcome...j/k. This is for all levels of racers, so dont think that you are not good enough or won't fit in. The numbers are usually around 10-12 people, but we would like to see more so I can justify another coach to help out. This is training done with coaching from USSA certified coaches and usually on the race hill itself or inside track of the race hill. Now I know it's a drive for some of you, but if you can make it a couple of times over the season it can help greatly. For any questions, you can email me or PM me for my email and I will put you my distribution list to keep updated for the training and if there are cancellations due to weather and such. The other thing is that I would like to put together a couple of times during the season for a full day of training. This would be group training and we would have to get a certain number of attendees to make it happen. If anyone is interested let me know. It's easier than you think to make it. Most people hemm and haw that they dont have the time, but there are ways and the benefits are great. Call in sick, take a personal day, use a mental health day (we all know we need those), quit your job or find some way. I am hoping to do at least two of these sessions for this season and more if possible. Last year the training was fun as heck and we all had a great time. Any possibility that anyone might be interested? Quote
VTmark Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 i would be if you would teach board racing gates. heh Quote
Ski Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 Definitely interested, Johnny. I cut my usual 6 day work week back to be free weekends for ASRA, so I haven't been able to join a regular midweek league, but I'm sometimes free Monday nights and would really like to do one or more full days. That's something I bet Skimom and Atomic would be up for as well. MC's pretty far for a lot of people from this MB, but I agree with Skimom that your courses are among the best for ASRA. And MC's South Lodge is an easy quick hit for after work; you can park, grab a ticket, and be at the lift in five minutes. Quote
skimom Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 Any possibility that anyone might be interested? 34881[/snapback] If it's on your race hill, we are. It's a long hike out for us from Phili, but that would be a terrific training opportunity. Quote
JohnnyP Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 (edited) As far as GS training for boarding, the radius of the turns will be fine but the gates wont be the triangular gates for snowboards, but you can still develop some tactical skills if you want. Yes, I know it's a long drive for most of you for just a Monday night, but for those that would like, instead of a Monday night, we can arrange a day to train and do either a whole day of GS or SL or both maybe depending on the help and the attendance. That might be a better bet than a Mon nite. Well, as long as you guys all know it exists and is open to ya. Edited October 8, 2005 by JohnnyP Quote
skimom Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 The notion of sneaking up occasionally is appealing... I have some friends in the Wednesday night MC race program - doesn't it involve the Garden State Ski Program or some such thing? I was wondering how they got so fast, then I found out they trained on your race trail. Quote

Ski Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 im looking to improve my nastar times. so the triangular gates really dont apply. and you think you could help with that muhhhhhhhhhhh They'd have you knock 20% off your times after one lesson by getting you on a good carve on a high line and improving your tactics. And I'm pretty sure that since they use Break-A-Way gates---hinged gates that are spring loaded and can be bashed through---, none of the principles would change. Quote
VTmark Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 sweet. i will deffently head up then. Quote
Papasteeze Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 This season my goal is going to be actually slamming the gates with my shoulder... why? Quote
Ski Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 This season my goal is going to be actually slamming the gates with my shoulder... I'm still working on keeping my hands forward and taking the gates off my shoulders rather than always with my forearms. It just seems like the gates end up inches from your goggles. I'm at the Tampa airport using free wireless broadband to surf ski sites and this MB, of course, waiting for my oldest to meet up with us. This airport is great. I wish our house had free wireless broadband. Starbucks coffee is over-rated, though. McDonald's now has better coffee. Quote
