Seriously, WTF is with this Weather?

Ride Delaware ?

Recommended Posts

After the 20+ minute liftlines two seasons ago at Killington for WROD I think that tradition might be over. When KMART was top to bottom opening weekend was legit but th stairway to heaven ruined that. Instead of skiing back to car it's wait in long liftline..ride lift..walk up stairway then gondola back down.

I just hiked the stairway to heaven last weekend. I know I wouldn't enjoy that with layers, skis, boots and poles just for some wrod.

Totally understandable... The stairway really only has two positives in that it gets them open early and allows them to stay open during the week. As much as I love SR, they don't run the Locke Triple on weekdays, and I hear the line there can be even worse... When they download, it is often only loaded every other chair from the bottom... The only time I ever rode the NRT by choice was during an elevation based event a couple years ago... About halfway down the mountain the snow changed over... I lapped the NRT and some woods off Powerline for most of the afternoon... That being said, I had the luxury of riding all the way to the bottom when I was done.. No hike necessary...

Root I hiked the Stairway to Heaven nonstop---under ten minutes and was dropping with sweat just what I want before a 5.5 hour drive. Back in 2007 me and AJeff hit opening weekend at Mount Snow and stayed in Bennington which is practically a suburb of Albany..so close..and there was a legit 1700 vert run open but no footrest on high speed quad. What's up with that???

I remember that weekend... Everything fell into place with temperatures... Everybody dropped into prime snowmaking weather and they were eager to test out the new fan guns... Unfortunately, Mount Snow just doesn't have the latitude or elevation to do that consistently... That was a rare event...

  • 2 weeks later...

I know that it's still a far way off, but temps look like they are falling back into seasonal averages pretty quickly... We could still have spikes, but in the next couple weeks the leaves will start to turn up north, and then start working their way south...

The leaves change earlier every year

A bunch goes into the color changing, but usually what kicks it off, especially the past couple years, has been a lack of water... However, it seems that temperatures have become more seasonal, with lows at Killington in the upper 50s, so it could be the cold weather... I could go for a good early season...

The summer season is definitely starting to cool down. It's only estimated to be a high of 75 today here at the beach, and last night was the first night in the 60s in like 6 weeks. Although temps are supposed to go back to their seasonal averages, so like the lower 80s this week, it's nice to be rid of the 90 degree days...

Putting in a week at a time to get things set up, got a ton done this past trip. Washed windows, stacked a cord of wood, took down some trees to open up a bit of a view from the front house windows, yardwork, put up handrails inside, etc. got in some flyfishing and a little partying while I was there. Won't be going back up until October as of right now. Picked up a case of Heady Toppers, pulled a fast one to get DTV hooked up at the house without paying for another account, got internetz hooked up, car inspected............it's been a huge push to get a ton of stuff done since June. Good news is, there's no mo' $$$, lulz, I picked up a Smuggs season pass, so the stix are waxed, the beers are cold, and I'm stoked for a better season than last year.

From the driveway into the garage solo in 4.5 hours. No back pain the next day...it a miracle!!!!!

Some selective tree cutting, that leaning birch is about 60+ feet tall, cut it perfectly so that it leaned into a few other trees that were obstructing the view.

Did a little trial run of the wood stove insert in the chimney to make sure it works properly. October is not the time to call the chimney guys if there's a problem.

Its a mix of birch, maple and ash, seasoned green, so I need to let some air flow thru the pile. I have about a third of a cord of seasoned hardwood the previous owner left there. I'm thinking I'm good for the next 2-3 seasons. Meanwhile that birch I took down will eventually end up in the wood pile. But not this year. I'm done with teh wood chopping and chainsawing.

Did some tunin'.....

Bootlegger's Beach is right at the bottom of my hill, its a Smuggs snow pond that's open to the public for swimming, boating, etc. The upper pond near the Madonna Lift is really nice, there's a trampoline in the water, and the fishing is pretty good as well.
