I think they claimed 8 for the storm on the 26th. I think kyle has it pretty close. The first digit on their ruler must be a 4. We didnt get 18" over the past 3 days.

Where in SEPA do you live exactly?

Kutztown was sitting at 8 degrees when I woke up this morning with a wind chill of -2. The vw had a hard time starting today.

Got back from VT last nite, took no pix other than doggie pix to my wife who stayed in Philly with the older dog. We got a few nice refresher snow showers at Smuggs and inbound conditions were good to very good with a few days of boot deep drifts and little ice to speak of thanks to grooming. We did one small tour up towards Jay on Sunday morning for 2 laps of hardwood bushthwacking and fresh pow as it began squalling when we pulled into the lot near the catamount trail. Prolly dropped about 2" in the hour we stayed in the car waiting for a few others to show up on top of the 5-7" they got the night before. Trolled a few bars on Thursday nite, met a few new people, cooked up some good food, no injuries. great success. Getting ready for Germany (for the 3rd attempt in 3 years) for a Feb 5 departure.

This is very good news, the stratosphere has suddenly warmed. Every once in a while the polar vortex which moves particles west to east or what we call wind essentially goes on the fritz, rossby waves which are weather in a sense get through the troposphere and into the stratosphere. This warms the stratosphere by tens of kelvins and throws a big fucking monkey wrench in the polar vortex.

The polar vortex when strong hold's cold air up by the arctic which is good for the arctic ice and the polar bear but bad for EC skiers. This sudden warming makes the vortex wobble which blows very cold air down into the EC. This means generally the EC will be cold for about a month and obviously increases our chances for significant snow events.

This is actually bad because it relates to global warming but its kinda like sloppy seconds or something similar, not really good news but really good news in relation to the currently available alternatives.

temps dropped about 20 degrees over the past 7 hours.

Still warm up here since the front hasn't passed yet, but it's supposed to drop 40 some degrees in the next 8 hours... Really did a number on the natural snow pack :-(
