Hasn't been bad at all so far today. 50 people max at a time lapping Tanenbaum. Seems like never more than a dozen or so on the trail at a time. Usually half that. No real lift lines except for right after two decent shut downs.

Yeah, the vert sucks but the snow is nice and it's good to be back on the skis

Toast, what were your impressions of Boulder and Estes? What did you do while you were here?

We really only drove through Boulder. I didn't realize how far it was from where we were staying in Estes Park.

We got in later Thursday so just drove up to out little cabin spot where the wedding was. Our flight was delayed because of the snow so it wasn't the easiest of drives up there at 1am.

Woke up to this view:

And then went into town for breakfast and to do some shopping in the downtown area. Ended up shopping a bit, checking out a local winery, and stopping at a brewery in town.

Stayed up in Estes Park that night for the rehearsal dinner, and then KT and his wife got into town.

Saturday the four of us went for a hike up to Gem Lake which is about a 4 mile out and back trail with 1050' of climb. Snow covered, a bit icy, but beautiful views of Estes Park and the valley.

Went back to our place and then off to the wedding which was a ton of fun, but the views were shitty.

The following morning the bride and groom (who is an elite runner who lives in the mountains outside of Boulder) had a group run set up for all of their running friends so we went out with about 20 people for a run at about 8000-8500' and saw a bunch of elk fighting in somebody's front yard. Again, the views sucked.

After that we said our goodbyes and took a drive and a few hikes in RMNP.

That's all. It's beautiful out there. I'd love to go back.

Great pics! Love the one of Dream Lake, that one took my breath away the first time I hiked it. Good for you for running at altitude! RMNP is beautiful, it's a great place to go in winter to hike when you want to avoid I-70. Looks like you had a great trip, except the shitty views you were forced to endure.

With the most recent PV weakening/sudden stratospheric warming (SSW) geopotential heights are predicted to build across Alaska and Northern Canada in the stratosphere.  This should favor similar positive pressure/geopotential height anomalies across much of the North American Arctic and negative pressure/geopotential height anomalies across the United States.  This pattern is potentially a prolific snowfall producer across Southern Canada and the Northern US but may also promote the pooling of Arctic air in Western Canada.

By late in the weekend, a storm from the southern states could affect us and it may be just cold enough to make it interesting. Looking ahead, all signs point to a major league widespread cold air outbreak by the end of next week across much of the US.

Dont read too much into that first sentence, Second sentence. Pay attention to that.  Its what Toast and God were speaking about earlier today.
