I’m getting new tires Wednesday. I hate to spend the money.

I hate to spend money on stuff that's not fun, tires, insurance, clothes washers, dosing tank pumps, etc...
Spending money on new skis, boots, trips, etc., well, that's a different spending altogether!

Just sharing some interesting snow observations/conditions from Colorado. After the large storm we had around Thanksgiving, we have been in a pattern of high pressure with cold nights and sunny days. As a result, there has been widespread surface hoar seemingly throughout the state.  I went to a CAIC talk over the weekend and seen plenty of people comparing notes with pictures on FB. I thought it was only here where I am, but seems to be everywhere.

Here is an image someone shared on FB.  The surface hoar has grown to 2” feather like crystals. Needless to say, when we get our next big storms, if this layer is still present we are going to have a very weak layer.

Just gunna say it.  This rain blows.

Very much so.  this is starting to get reminiscent of last year.  I think we are a little better off right now, but after this rain resources will go to refresh whats open, then new stuff.  Rinse and repeat for next week.

It's cool to mess around with when it's on top, at Sundance one time they were wind blown to like 6" to 8" inches long and you could pick them up like plates.

You need like spring to round that shit out

Yesterday and today we're not good. I'm not ready for brown town.

Looking at the webcams, it appears the snow actually fared pretty well and they already had the guns on at 3:30am.

i was expecting mainly snowmaking on existing trails as a refresh.  looks like a few sporadic guns on the existing trails, with the lower part of razors going, and it looks like upper upper main, and a patch down towards lower.

i think conditions today might be firm.

this week coming up almost looks like a repeat of last week, but might stay cold right up to Christmas.  if this pans out, Christmas week should be really good.

It’s wet though. Good for base building. Not great for snow blowing

I mean that's probably not a bad idea since slop is the only thing we get around here anyway

At least it’s not going to flash freeze. I’ve had a couple times over the years where I got 6” or so then rain and a flash freeze with a cold period afterwards. My old faithful snowblower that starts first pull every time would clog up .

Now I use an ATV with a plow. I just need to remember early season to push it back as far as I can. The forecast looks a little warmer at the end of the month but January looks pretty cold with some chances for snow nice storms 🤞
