I'm packin my car tomorrow with the intention of leaving Phlatadelphia Sunday AM. After reviewing forecasts up north, I'm thinking southbound will be the better bet at this point.

Snowshoe's been getting hit pretty hard. Should have really good conditions.

They had a killer year last year compared to NE.

Maybe not as good terrain though. Stowe would be my pick and will get tons of snow midweek from upslope.

Moe it takes you a whole day to pack your car? Takes me 3 minutes to pack for a ski trip.

Lulz! No, Takes me about an hour to get the car camp set up. Still waiting to hear back from a bud to see if he wants to go, then we'll get a package deal for 97/pp. I need to be back before Friday, and the NE forecast is pretty dicey. I see windholds, less snow, and icey up north as of tonite's models. Cheaper in WV, less driving. Knee deep fresh n natural outweighs vert and manmade dust on crust.

Good pow here, still snowing and -3 degrees at 7am. Winds gusting with chill factor in the minus teens. Skied my ass off yesterday, stuck to the Eagle express hi speed. Had the sawmill glades and lower part of sawmill trail to myself all day. Poorly placed signage kept everyone else off it. Boot to shin deep all day with free refills from Ullr.

I took a few pics, prolly gonna wait until we'd to take more. iPhone pics only and it's almost impossible to use with gloves and liners. Sitting in the warm mancave moe-tel waiting forthe Junction restaurant to open @ 8am. Winds are super gusty so I'll prolly hold off getting a lift tix until after 9am when the lifts start spinning and see about wind holds. Snowshoe is pretty isolated and self contained. There is no main lodge to speak of which makes camping a little trickier but I've located all the necessities. Snow quality is super nice, not a whole lot of terrain open, good snowmaking, more later. Took me 7.5 hrs to get here. Driving thru squidbilly country is a slow process.

I first learned to snowboard 10 years ago at the Shoe, and it holds a special place in my heart... They get some gnarly lake effect and while the average states 180" a year, there have been several recent years they topped 200". The only downfall is that they are much more susceptible to the Gulf Stream movements than we are in the NE... To the best of my knowledge, they repeated the same thing as last year with opening. They were in the process of being dumped on midweek and opening was set for Saturday. Being real snow enthusiasts, they closed the offices on Thursday and Friday and had the office crew man the lifts and tickets sales. dcski.com reported that the General Manager was even checking lift tickets... Thats my kind of mountain. Enjoy the goods Moe... The last time I was there, the Sawmill glades were not, and the high speed lift was still a fixed grip... It may only have 1,500 ft vertical, but the place can get the goods and at times is downright chilly as fuck...

They have some terrain in the Basin, and some over at Silver Creek. The basin terrain is in the 1,000 ft range while Silver Creek maxes out at about 800 ft off the top of my head. The majority of the terrain at the Shoe is indeed pretty mellow. Each to his own. I know that for me, what I chose to do would vary greatly on what conditions I want the most. If I wanted max trails, vert, and possible snow, I would take K-Mart/Bush/Stowe... But if I knew it was snowing at Snowshoe and they had received several feet and it were going to continue snowing? Maybe I would go there if I were feeling the powder... Powder is tough to find anywhere sometimes...

nice moe. you live a pretty decent life. kinda jealous of the random trips you take all over the place.

1. Don't get married

2. Don't have kids

3. Stay outta casinos.

4. Just do it.

The Moe-tel is lookin sweet. Conditions look superb....JADIP.

Even more awesome was taking a leak in a 24oz empty coffee cup, in a one armed push up position inside the car, with a head lamp on.......at 3AM. Sorry, no pics of that, my other hand was busy aiming.

Moe you are hard core with the car camping. No way I could handle sleeping in a car in those temps.

The only time it sucks is when I have to reach in front to turn on the engine and run the heater. So, I think I'll get a remote ignition installed. Problem solved for less than a nite at a hotel.
