White Face 1/2-1/6

I'm new to the forum. Was curious to see if anyone was going to whiteface from Jan 2-6. Looking to hike and ride the slides at whiteface. Heard it's fun when they get some decent snow up there.

I used to live up there... trust me slides wont open unless a very big dump on top of a stable snowpack or if its march and nice soft snow up there

Really? Ya I'm worried about the trip. They haven't been getting much snow up there. Jackson Hole on the other hand out west can't stop getting feet of snow!

what he said. the slides will always be hit or miss, they really dont open all that often. whiteface is a great time though....tons of glades.

not only are the slides hit or miss but last time i checked in order to get past the ski patrol gate you needed a group of 3 and avygear(probe, shovel, but don't think they required a beacon).

You can always access the slides through the state park.

Thanks for the info guys. With the weather patterns for the next two weeks i highly doubt i'll get into that terrain.

You can't go to WF expecting the slides to be open. You go to ski everything else. If they are open then you're in luck and normally that's later in the season.

Does anyone think Look Out Mountain will be open by the beginning of Janurary? when does that open. those glades look really fun.

Ya I saw that. I really hope look out mountain is open by the beginning of Jan but hey ya can't get everything in life haha.

Wilmington should be open. Sugar valley is hit or miss depending on conditions and snow fall. Lookout below (the jewel of lookout mt.) may or may not be depending on conditions. If you go right after a big dump you may be in luck. If its icy or hardpack I doubt it.
