n0xidee Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Looking to pick up a new helmet for this season. Anyone have any thoughts they would like to share? Was looking to go Giro but open to anything. Just not this damn burton one i have now. Big and bulky. Sucks. Quote
AngryHugo Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 x2 x3 most comfortable helmet I've ever worn. I think KT wears one, too, so they're not just for snowboarders. Quote
n0xidee Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 Vents or no vents? I like having the vents on my motorcycle helmet but on my ski one never had any. Quote
Kyle Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 i have a R.E.D helmet. but berns look cool. R.E.D helmets fit like skateboard helmets thats why i like them. helmets are more of a personal preference item IMO. Quote
crazex Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 I have a Smith Variant Brim, that I like. The Smith Vantage is nice too. Quote
nick malozzi Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 I have no vents on mine, and it's never been an issue. even in the spring, but i haven't had a lot of really hot days. Quote
n0xidee Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 I'm liking the Bern Baker. Anyone tell if they run large or small? I'm right on the border of M and L on their sizing chart. Quote
nick malozzi Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 I feel like mine runs large as I have a massive dome and I wear the medium, but you really should try one on as head shape can greatly effect sizing. Quote
phillycore Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 I've had helmets for drag racing, motorcycles, bicycling, and skiing. One thing matters more than anything else when it comes to any helmet. The rating. Choose wisely if you possibly plan on counting on it one day. Quote
toast21602 Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 i like my giro mx 10 i believe? i don't recall. people seem to like Bern. Quote

I bought a Bern, LOVED the fit and feel, but got rid of it. I won't lie that I didn't care too much for the color I bought either, but the majority of Berns use their multi-impact foam that is designed to kind of absorb multiple smaller impacts instead of fully absorbing the one medium or big impact that you're wearing a helmet to protect against. I had a Baker, and it uses a hard outer shell, but still the flexible foam inner designed for smaller impacts. I'm not wearing a helmet right now which is about as dumb as it gets. Even with my thoughts above; any Bern is better than no helmet. I'm planning to pick up something with foam more similar to a bike helmet/with a rating sometime real soon. Quote
