Barb Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 All I can say is wow! Left Boulder about 740 and it took me almost 2hrs to get here with morning work traffic and some snow from yesterday. There has to be a better rout and maybe the Co pasrs can chime in because taking 6 west sucks to get to 70. On to the snow.. Did 5 or 6 runs off the blues from chair 1, then decided to try chair 2. What a long cold windy ride chair 2 is. Made my way into the bowl (not sure what its called). About 1/3 into the bowl I was in solid powder. I couldn't see my board and it wasn't making a sound. It was by far the best thing I have ever experienced on a snowboard. The powder didn't last all the way down. And I don't know how I missed the reload for chair 2 but ended up at the bottom and had to ride all the way up again. Taking a lunch break now and will probably have to drive back since a servpro guy is coming to do more work on my damaged basement @230. This was an awesome day! Quote
nick malozzi Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Barb, take 93 all the way down to Golden and hop on 70 there. It seems like it would take longer, but 6 just takes forever. However, keep your knowledge of 6 in your back pocket for weekend trips when 70 backs up. Midweek though 93 is probably your best option. Also, keep in mind the 7:40 is prime time commute traffic midweek. So you may want to either leave a bit earlier or later. Things should clear up quite a bit by about 830-9, and anytime before 7. 1 Quote
jordan Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 yep, stay straight where you would normally turn right to get on 6 through the canyon. I think highway 93 turns into us 6 there as well, but in the other direction, so it gets confusing...just stay straight and you will see signs for 70 about 2-3 miles past the turn off for the canyon. canyon is almost always better for driving to the ski areas on weekends, because it avoids the downhill backup at floyd hill. All other times, 70 is usually better, but you will get much better gas mileage taking the canyon all the time as it is flatter. glad you are having an awesome time barb. looks like another storm is moving in for the weekend. You still going to be around? I still need to meet up with you! Jordan Quote

It's hard to explain to people back home but when you live here and can choose your days to coincide with the (much more frequent) availability of new snow, you tend to find these days more often than not. Just reading your post reminded me of my first few days out here and wondering how it could be this good so often. Even the "bad" days out here are worthy of a vacation trip, this weekend I have friends coming out from NJ/PA and we will have sunny skies, 100+ inch base and warm (45 degree) days, by local standards this is terrible for this time of year but it's going to be a great weekend.
