Glenn
My parents decided that they want to skip the summer vacation this year in favor of a winter vacation up north. So basically the requirements are... on or very near mountain accommodations, a one day drive, room for 5 people, in room kitchen, and obviously a decent mountain. An added bonus would be in area snow mobiling for my dad. Anyways if anyone has a suggestion, it would be appreciated.
skidude
Vermont...Okemo maybe....I guess it really depends on what is a 'day drive' to you. Mad River Glen maybe...Good stuff up there.
skigurl
smuglers notch has good deals with all the accomadition and stuff in one package, lift tickets, lessons, house good prices stuff to do other then ski. stuff for ALL ages, 3 mountains
AtomicSkier
Mad river is skiers only, is it not? Okemo is very nice, I go there at least once a year in previous years (not once this year, though). Alot of trails, during the week there are NO liftlines whatsoever, some really nice glades, however if you like it REALLY steep, Okemo isn't the place. Glenn
We are going to be spending a week where ever we go. So I guess variety would be nice, steepness not as big a deal.

Glenn
what are the five abilites and terain pick? 27022 My brother and I will ride just about anything, we prefer blacks, but will do just about anything. My sister likes blue cruisers, she has ridden blacks, but tends to ride more conservatively. My mom and dad haven't skied in about 10 years and I don't know if they will even get out on the snow. My dad used to snow mobile alot, and would much rather be doing that if its available.

AtomicSkier
How long is the drive to Okemo? 27029 For the normal folk? Less then 6 hours I'd venture, but when you get on 87, you can set the cruise at 85+ and just chillax. I think I've made it up there, with light traffic on 78/287 in slightly over 4 hours w/o stopping once. I'd say 5-6 with gas and food and bathroom breaks. Sno Mountain Skier
Smuggs has a real nice variety of steeps, trees, cruisers, bumps, and of all sorts. But it might be to family oriented for ya. My brother went to sunday river and said he loved it there will a huge variety and i know he went snowmobiling. That is up in maine. It was a 7 hour drive from scranton. Papasteeze
Smuggs is good it has all the variety.. Stowe might be better since its a family thing and it has more "atmosphere" there is always killington...... I'd say Stowe.

NJSkiFamily
dthmtl, Sorry for taking so long to respond.......but I agree with everyone that your family is a good candidate for Smuggler's Notch. They've got the fully equipped slopeside condos/townhouses (which is pretty good since I think the on-site restaurants are horrible). There is a good variety of terrain that will keep everyone happy and the entire family can sign up for lessons in advance. And if someone in the family decides they don't want to ski/board there is also snow shoeing and cross country skiing as well as indoor activities. Plus a decent sized indoor pool and hot tubs. There are snow mobile tours offered every night and even dog sled rides. Just bear in mind there are no high speed quads at Smuggs and every lift is a double. Ignore the constant pleas to take the time share lectures. Call and get the brochure and check out the web site.
Ski
The closest major ski area in VT that has nearby snowmobiling is Mount Snow. Here's the snowmobiling link: http://www.snowgooseinn.com/New%20Snowmobile%20Page.htm Mount Snow is my old home hill and I highly recommend it, especially since they bought Haystack and offer a free shuttle over. Kind of like a Killington/Pico thing, where if Mount Snow gets packed, you can escape to Haystack and have no lift lines. I hesitate to recommend the North Face of Mount Snow to Zaldon, though. If he straightlines Rip Cord or Jaws of Death, we may never see him again.
Glenn
Thanks for the info, especially the snowmobiling link. I'll have to give this a look.

Glenn
Looks like we are headed to whiteface as of right now. Some family friends (who aren't big skiers ) convinced the parents to check it out. Someone from this board mentioned it being icey there? I would campaign for somewhere different if it is not too late.

It pretty close, about a 4-5 hr drive and if u book early you can get great deals at the stratton inn, or the liftline lodge... for those park riders im serious of their stuff, its the mecca of parks in the east. hope this helped
